brought whiskey from
the cellar
tomatoes nearly green
wrote to you of oceans
caverns filled between
the first i thought to tell you
my love was yours alone
would free you from
the ache of carolina –
arms that feel so empty
have you gone
too far
from where we started
to unravel what was ours
one night we said too much
and fell away
i remember when the truth
succumb to shadow
a reach beyond the place
i prayed
to find you
forgotten every reason
left to stay
. . .

had i nothing
but one more ache –
another poem come of this
ashes swirl beyond the meadow
leaves returning
a golden bliss
silence fills
an almost whisper
breezes brush the tallest pines
remembered not
to indecision –
other worlds where stars align
bid me go
or let me linger –
will this earthly heart to slow
across and back
this everafter –
is home to every
love i’ve known
. . .

she held winter
in her apron –
snowflakes on a string
a touch of something
magic
she restored
seeds of revolution
weary wicked vine –
she bit her lips
whene’er she willed
for more
of distances
too fragile –
love where weeds permit
roses pressed to walls
yesterday
she walked beyond
what made her longing easy –
wanting for another
to wonder why
she came
. . .

we poured blues
in shades of black –
thunder raining down
broken chords
ancient words
married to my soul
famously
a rebel
could sit the night with red
held against a dreamer
lines to fit
just so
a poet slept
and there i fell
lost within the rhyme
made of then
much better –
than ever I could say
strings stretched tight
across my bow
breath beneath the pine
as fingers found
a memory
to play
. . .

where was i
remembered –
as dew along the path
mosses where only briar grew
a slave to my intention
guarding passion
like a salve
was only me –
before the time of you
remembered us
the best of us
rust
as solace shared
let me be
hold me near
to places you are broken
the scar i gave
i didn’t mean
was anguish letting go
where rocks have grown
to fill the path
we know
another day
remembered me
for every promise made
glimmers of forever
signs before you came
let me be
honor me
with places you adore
a dream you shared
one summer night –
stilled my heart
for more
your touch
a trace of madness
stories sure to tell
empty skies
purple ribbon mornings
stars we plucked from rivers
as they fell
beyond our sight
was there i found you
waiting
carving shadows
into light
. . .

of places
I’ve forgotten
the fragile ache of growth
summer tucked inside
my winter shirt
the way snowflakes glimmer
atop the tender bud
warmth that comes
to steal my breath
away
. . .
she leans
against the memory
was once her favored spring
a dress she wore
to rouse him –
from his sleep
beneath
the snow

of nothing
not much do I have
tho i beg you
to take what you will
go without speaking
let me a kiss
the warmth of your name
still burning
my lips
of boxes
and winters
ten thousand years
i made of my life
one sweet yesterday –
coffee left stains
on the floor
where I knelt
burning my secrets
away
echoes
are scattered
high on a shelf
where once I kept photos
pieces of us
stored without thought
to where we might be –
or how far the stars
still to fall

sometimes –
I love the word
tho it alludes me –
sometimes i feel
sometimes i love
sometimes
is ne’er enough
to imagine life sufficient
to take it all apart
where ribbons cut across
my tender heart
forever is more telling
tho rarely sounds the same
when rolling off my tongue –
a brittle lie
forever waits
beyond the ache
eternity implies
where still i yearn
for sometimes –
a breath between
goodbyes
. . .

sunrise burns
beyond the steeple spire
melting every doubt
I’ve held between
the moment
you were taken back
breath you stole away
e’en now my hands
deny the warmth
you gifted me
that day
words no longer
flatter
poison for my tongue
yet still I taste
your name upon my lips
a prayer
I’ve not forsaken
a sigh
repeated sweet
pressed within the memory
of evermore
a kiss
do you remember
how the curtains fell
to let the starlight in
