had I nothing
but your silence
your warmth within the night
I’d worry not for water
deny my need for more
than your breath
where I am hungry –
words where I
have none

if e’er I wrote
without your name –
or felt an ache
beneath each rhyme
I’d find you still
your fingerprints –
pressed
along my spine
but for words
I’d trade my pen –
and lay aside
attempts at grace
for once I drew
my fate with yours
along and down
an anxious page
tis not enough
to speak aloud –
for silence now
the truth will speak
as breath between
ten thousand sighs
more than I thought
could be

I can’t pretend
you make it easy –
how your silence wears me thin
how long –
the time becoming
til I see your face again
it might be years
it could be moments –
or lifetimes still to be
a breath beyond the leaving
is soon enough
for me
. . .

choice, do you remember, ghosts, it's what I do, life, love, memory, need, poetry, silence, sometimes, time, when I close my eyes, whispers
in the mellow
afternoon
where you sit
the day alone
fumbling with your papers
with your keys
images replay
every time you close
your eyes
she waits you know
in dreams
whene’er you sleep
just beyond
the memory
of just beyond the trees
music plays
how much louder must
it be
to obscure the loss
erase the cost
how much
before you answer
the silence
of your need

it’s my fated returning
of bark unto vine –
where cedars embrace the maple
lucious blackberry
and muscadine blue
are weaved together a rhyme
no sweeter could be
of places not far
miracles hid in plain view
sworn as allegiance
our wonders to bring –
holy most holy
of all we are due
washed by the rivers
of stormclouds to spring –
rush me til breath falls away
stand with me currents
made dear by returning
cypress and hickory
sunlight and shade
lie with me now –
in words without meaning
or mention by name
til less they might be
taste of these tears
as seasons
pass over – one
love becoming
a forever I knew
. . .

daylight
sends a shiver
down my spine –
before I heed the wanting –
to resurrect a dream
twilight
wakes a longing –
where my heart has disappeared
and I am left to grieve
for times
between
I want to
understand –
how it is
you found me here
as paper birds
imagined into flight
as breezes blew
seedlings of a life
before I lived
moments rush to silence
the name you took
last night

christmas, holy, life, love, nearer to heaven than the stars, sacred intimacy, silence, sometimes, spirit, time, truth, words
along the way
Christmas twinkles
in strings of red and green
starlight scattered
softly o’er the snow
and in the face
where once the moon
remembered why we came
angels tip their
golden wings
below
silence spills
o holy night
and I am lost for words
to ease the ache
I find in everything
days my heart has worried
are taken back again
by One who waits
the evening bell
to ring

tho I can’t swear
to each remembrance –
to what is truth
and what is mine
longing whispered into shadow –
became a prayer
of love resigned
I can’t say
of wonder started –
how much more the heart
can feel
of destinies
recorded –
burden wished
from moments here
I’ve no proof
beyond this silence –
which flutters soft within my ear
what remains
of truths unspoken –
promise
I alone
can hear
