there’s a point
where words have no memory
no rush to confess
what was lost
a fire burned out
petals retreat
retuned as a moment
eternity kept
apart from the sinner
devoid the saint
– with only
the heart
to remember
. . .

when war is come
and I have prayed
the fathers intervene
to carve a crystal fountain
from the seas
healing hearts
and easing every memory
of loss –
taking back of hurts
we fell between
as tears aligned
with rumor –
sons by sons are grieved
a disillusioned truth
returned as stone
I will sit the night
every night
until the end becomes
a place to start
with pieces left
of home

had i known
my fervent whisper
might reach beyond
the veil
beyond the break
where sunlight fills
your eyes
had i sensed
your permission
as you strolled
beneath the boughs
courted by the shadows
in a world
of here and now
had i known
you were missing
everything
i miss of you
as breath
against my shiver
– resurrecting
every truth
had i known
this day would come
anew
tho never quite
the same
as the first you heard
me whisper –
the first i spoke
your name

I am
the child of a living God
the essence of a garden
I am the blood
of ten thousand tribes
made to one
I am the breath of heaven
a river rush with tears
a light denied
the limits
of the sun
I am
willing to be broken
so that I might rise again
deciding as I will
my destiny
I am not afraid
of falling
mine are wings
of love divine
I will lean into
and wait
a certain wind

all I really know, close enough to touch, deliverance, faith, life, love, prayer, time, truth

forgive my heart
for failing –
arms for letting go
denied the faith
for more than want –
some other fate
to know
when all is lost
remember this –
love I keep for you
hands resolved
to holding
what was never ours
to lose
take and know
for all that was
remains
within my heart
years succumb to living
lifelines split
apart
pressed as one
into the glass –
truth negating time
a kiss
to haunt my whisper
breath the same
as mine

when bells
are nearly broken
tho chords
are hanging still
when the choir
folds together
with their silks
when hymns are dashed
as silence earned
banging on
our knees
sore and bruised
the busted
falling down
when truth
we swore would save us
becomes the last
we seek
as walls to spy
flame is all
we breathe
curses pulled
around us
pleas for something
more
to ease the ache
of missing –
to find
what we came for
. . .
Author’s Note: Sometimes there is no image worthy of the words. Sometimes, I fall willingly.

I’ve not the strength
to question
or the will
to quite let go ~
patience of a sinner
or a saint
without the faith
for moving
not much
stands in my way
just a trust
to know
tomorrow
won’t be the same

beauty, closer now to heaven than the stars, death, faith, fear, freedom, life, mystery, nature, release, sorrow, truth

had time
herself delayed
for to listen as my love
what freedoms come
to swallow up your fears
release as I
once promised
wings returned to flight
a dark
beyond the search
of constellations
wishes falling round
denied a place
to keep
ashes white with snow
adorn the path
had time delayed
forever –
one minute more
for me
wherever now my wings
are sworn to reach

13 Friday Aug 2021

violet bruise
of abiding truths
scars
as proof of life
rivers seeking refuge
with the sea
a fragile faith
redeemed by grace
heaven finds us here
wrapped in arms
we never thought
to leave
fates align
by love’s design
memories of home
are stars to fill
an ancient
destiny

had I loved
with something less
than all this heart
could hold –
measured my desire
by yesterdays
counted not the bounty
love was sure
to bring
at risk for loss
an ache so deep –
I could not turn away
the stars escape
this time of year –
and some
will never know
of ancients
where the windows stood –
eyes to catch the light
love resolved
the heart to overflow
