a path through the pines
all i could see
was the light
of your eyes –
a tender come home
melting the miles
by the ways

a hand folded softly
with mine
dreams planted sweetly
to heart –
distance
not so
the place
where i still
tender your longing
to moments divine –
a resounding
come home
echoes soft
through the pines

a red painted wagon
a tractor i can’t drive
but i can watch

of a dream
no one noticed
growing from weeds
constellations
in your eyes
i want a sunset
tennessee
or alabama
it don’t matter
to the roads
that brought us home

save these mortal pains
days without restraint
had we much
or something more
than diamonds held
stars beyond the gate
hands to fit
in places dark
eyes to light
the deep
were something less
worth coming for
i think not
now we see
the sky
recalls each moment –
portals to the past
as blue made dreams
remember –
we fell
as wishes cast

by your flame

hands that fit
just so –
leagues beyond
the reach of golden strands
pasture i’ve neglected
lay me down
again
guardian of stars
this tender land
you will know
as i have known you
feel
as i can feel
what was come
and what i gave
to have you here
when there is nothing
to surrender –
no memory of light
pages turned
til every rhyme
is clear
save the ways we were
one night
– when every cloud was dust
remember this forever
remember us –
a part of every truth
we dared declare
when nights are
painted golden –
dreams live
everywhere

the stars had no names
and a wild endless blue

like a wave built of clouds

out past the waves
where stars
are allowed
pointed
and endless
cradled by blue
