venus

embers of a faithful star
blow across the night
to fan the spark –
of another warm embrace
eyes reflect the knowing
of where we yet begin –
blessings here
I wished for
yesterday

of loss
I bear no sorrow –
no hurtful memory
love remains a treasure
mine to keep
beyond the place
remembered –
a door is opened wide
night birds call –
to another dream
I sleep

within the hope
of evermore –
is every plan I made –
a life beyond this living
undenied
a name I wear against my heart –
stories wait to tell –
of want beyond this wishing
a star prepared
to fly

. . .

author’s note – now and then, I awake in sweat,
breath catching as I wonder why
in the darkness –
words find me –
loosed without prejudice or fear

sometimes they fit together, but others, they do not
last night one of those
and these, the telling

eclipse

was it yesterday
I saw you again
or was it a dream –
coming true
given to light
some faraway night
when love
was the best
we could do

there once was day
I remember it well
when I held the sun –
sweet eclipse
where stars intertwined
with tresses
so fine
and yours was the name
on my lips

tellme

there are whispers
of remember
in the gentle tide of leaves –
a dancing of the trees
beneath an august night
as feathers sweeping skyward
on wings of sacred light

there are songs
and there are moments
from which our songs are weaved
– music held together
by the stars

lovers wrapped in make believe
waking with the dawn –
wishes born of loving
falling down

story still becoming
the vessel meant for dreams
verses where a forest grieves
with plans to get us back
into the heart
where love remains
the source of everything

I remember well
the season –
mercury and venus
a watchful moon
still takes my breath away
counting time by wishes
made for one another
whispers
folded round us –
stay

I’ve reached the age
where years no longer matter –
fissures to a dream
another page
moments I remember
a proprietary weakness –
I pass the field
we loved in
every day

once
between collisions
we dared to trace the stars
and cursed aloud
for years the passing on
wishes burnt to cinder
aren’t all to matter now
how much we dreamed
remains a distant light
beyond the shift
where shadows hide –
I worry for you there
will you still hold
my secrets –
the flame
that warms my soul

fireflies

put me in a jar
of twilight and jasmine
(never let me go)
hide me away
in folds of scented linen
stories written to yourself
names and places faded
unto years –
(whispers now)
of another time I wished aloud
I remember still
how it was (how it felt)
to hold the stars

from time to time
the stars align
and I wonder what we had in mind
when we wished aloud
some other day
on lights burned out
along the way

lost

was e’er a moment
feigned recall
the whisper of your sigh –
a taste of memory
was your kiss
a story of beginning
as life returned to rhyme
verses spilt in silent
reverie

where stars are yet
becoming
a place i know by heart
forever shines the brightest
in your eyes
a billion tiny wishes
of constellation web –
flames to fill
a dark
eternity

nearme

Now and then, I’m reminded of the unique wonder that is inherent to our living, loving, and journey through the number that becomes our days.

And while most travels are the same, others can vary based on age, our place in the world, and even the area where we are born to.

Just yesterday, I made the trip to see my mother, some thirty minutes down the road. Along the way, I passed a place I have overlooked hundreds of times, but this time was different. I noticed a cluster of trees and just as I passed, I realized there was a worn down path – a road (less traveled) that navigated between them, through them.

And just like that, I was at another place of my life. I was 18.

While I don’t for one minute think that ‘parking’ is unique to the south, I think that every place we find love is unique in some way – even if only unique to us (every kiss, the first, the sweetest ÷ the only).

In the south (or at least in my part of the South), we would never spend a Saturday night in the backseat of a car when the option of a blanket of clover beneath and stars above is so readily available.

could I tell you
the truth of this –
of secrets writ to skin
of nights
not left to injury or scar
the memory returning us
not so weary
not so far
to fields where clover blooms
beyond the stars

tangerine and wish

beyond
the colors
I can see –
others I have known
are come within the night
in search of me
for names
I may remember
for yellows swirling there
of paradise
a shade of ancient pearl
curved around
a tiger’s eye –
music from above
as stars
permit the dark
to feel
their love
