will ever this
the cold reveal –
a plan
for early spring
buds are sleeping
safely
by the gate
dreams have been
forsaken
to seasons
come and gone –
morning swears
allegiances
to fate

to years behind
steps unknown –
for all I have another
remembered now
in silent lullabies
as echoes falling
tender –
curses none can hear
timbers weep
with every sweet
goodbye

. . .

beyond the safe ~

undenied

of paths
I’ll not remember this
how far
beyond your arms
beyond the safe –
somewhere
still we are

will years
become
the wearing down
into eternity –
a late night
in the kitchen
silently

rehearsed
again
the coming back
forgotten now to go
love is still
– I wonder
how I know

. . .

the way of march ~

crow-snow_600

held not
the feather
falling –
the winter
from the chill
a long night
how I held you then
as pardon given
will

as ashes
blown the way
of march –
of april sons
and fathers –
who am I to question
what the passing
seasons leave

as noted here
no more than this –
eternity
we opened
an understanding
more than I can say
once we were
together –
might the warmth
recall me now

holding
still
to lifetimes
worn away

remember
lest I ask you
for a memory
or two
a time before
our touching
held a kiss –
angels bent
to tell us
where and when
the way
we knew –

of all was left
a moment more
of bliss

seventeen ~

surelyme

sworn to none
the letting go
some piece of seventeen
forty more and there
the coming back
to catch us up
with sweet surprise
familiar as our own

– as all I know
of places that I don’t

feather covers
tiny blooms
and all I ask – another
sunrise come
and I within the toast
of one more willing
bring me back
voices I remember
becoming this –
a song
beneath my bones

ancient glow
of amber fits
settled on the porch
close enough to mars
and he – my sin
forgiven when the morning
spreads our truth
around

wrapped unto
and warmed against
my fall

miles
and still unknown
the ways
october passed
melting into now
snow on skin –

as somewhere
I have noticed
comes without invite –
crossing into dreams
of seventeen

. . .

just so ~

rememberedhome

of knowing
this familiar come
the scent of almost gone
tracks across
the snow –
my yesterdays

are laced in mud –
souvenirs
of every dream restarted
the path to home
with hands to hold
– always

where
was I forgotten –
the feel of woolen sleeves
woodsmoke
curled
around my heart
just so

cedar fills
an ancient need –
stirring words to will
leaves are opened
letters
letting go

. . .

even then ~

Romance

can we ever be sure
of reasons
returned –
or how sweetly
the shape of love can
become
a place we were going
miles past the end
where the road
ran in circles
and we laughed
even then
as we stooped to pick
flowers
we planted the spring
and sat in the shade
of our once
everything

. . .

heaven here ~

of one we knew

of heaven here
(a paradise)
of truth
denied our say –
warmed by every
coming home –
(numbering
our days)

held aside
from all we knew –
would find (our love)
the same
as light before
the light was new
(to wonder why)
we came

shame
the locks
for breaking
before the sun we rose
with questions
not for taking back –
in living (now
we know)

. . .

last on my pillow ~

because of you

settle me in
as seasons digress
and leaves
burn their way
into snow
reminded of iris
– the color of wings
and a time
passed before
I could know

what was truth
to rekindle
a flame nearly gone –
a song
almost faded

from word
skins are worn easy
as twilight to press
life into passing
unheard

trace
comprehension
of places between
the last on my pillow
– a time
disappeared

starlight is writ
to the back of my hand –
counting my way
back to here

. . .

a time to keep ~

rememberedmehome

I’ve heard
them tell
of summer storms
beyond the reach
of winters –
of places where the spring
has gone to stay
wrapped around
a bitter bark –
falling into sorrow
a time to keep
of lifetimes
yesterday

held us here
with promise –
with want for one last time
a life reserved
if ever fate allowed
given will to gather
lest we choose
another way –
beholding not to
consequence
somehow

changing
as were seasons
passing us to years –
golden crowns
with ribbons furling grey
wherein our faith
is measured –
a truth
we carry still
of times we lived
for this –
another day

. . .

of moments left ~

storybook

ivy claims
the dusty boards
run beneath my bed
beyond the dream
roots are taking hold
a somewhere
I’ve decided
is where I’ll spend
my nights

while keeping here
the best
of letting go

anxious breath
of moments left
of lifetimes there
we knew
calamine
and flannel
birch and bear
cold the ways of winter
let me hold you
closer dear

charcoal swans
are gathered
to the rise

silence
tells me everything
about the ways
you’ve come
and where you’ll go
when morning
shades my eyes

paths
of almost nothing
weave ambrosia
into light
and I am swept
with where you were
tonight
