I still remember
how it was
to hold you near
though time has passed
and left no scar
at all
winds are blowing
how I love
the song they hesitate
names I spoke aloud
I speak again
leave to me
the everything –
of all I’ve known to love
let the years
forget not long –
the path
we came
for getting on

from somewhere
once before
longer still
my ache when shadows
warm the place
i am
a fragrant kiss
foretelling
of the ways i’d come to hate
nights to pass the miles
from sleep to dream
gathered up
in trinkets –
nurtured by my lust –
cursing of
another time
was nothing left
of us
save for these
reminders
we were here
and i was home –
lifetimes tracing echoes
of me now

for warmth I waited
crooked boards and thread –
a light
to ease the dark
above the pines
distance traveled
who am I to squander
what remains
to still my ache
with wonder
what of you
was ever mine
another season
captive to your eyes
was this
the home i never left
when fell into
the pond –
drowned one summer day
mid july
did you grieve
til dreams were tendered
by words
that never came –
an ancient map
stars we called
by name
was this
the chance forever took
one winter as we lay
curled against each other –
do you remember

for making a fool
of this heart
how many the dreams
he’s offered to keep –
unwilling i’ve let
every one
fall apart
sworn to my honor
a warrior sometimes –
come as the night
still reaches for day
how faithfully started

a whisper of promise
betrayed

of the creek
has turned into dust

i once held up the night)
was right here
beside you
covered with dew
assessing the stars
(wishes in flight)
was heaven this close
(i scarce can recall)
how sweet was your love
on my skin –
venus made nest
in a handful of curls
words seeking silence
again

tell me once more
how swiftly the waves
to carry us far
from this place where we lay
how cool were
the oceans –
(created from dust)
to hold what was left

mosses where only briar grew
a slave to my intention
guarding passion
like a salve

rust

to places you are broken

was anguish letting go
where rocks have grown
to fill the path
we know
another day
remembered me
for every promise made
glimmers of forever
signs before you came
let me be
honor me
with places you adore
a dream you shared
one summer night –
stilled my heart
for more
your touch
a trace of madness
stories sure to tell
empty skies
purple ribbon mornings
stars we plucked from rivers
as they fell
beyond our sight
was there i found you
waiting
carving shadows
into light

as once you promised
when the snow was deeply come
another time when ash
was falling down –
when the wheat was dry
one summer
afternoon
mid July
swarms of honeybees
beyond the barn
stay
let me love you
for this eternity
were these words
the price for hearing
silently
I will listen
til memories
have taken all I am
and filled my empty heart
with destiny
