destiny, eternal, evidence everywhere, forgotten, life, love, pages, promise, proof, purpose, remembering, sometimes, the path

somewhereyou

from pages torn
a story telling
of times before I cannot say
the journey through
or where I found you
somewhere lost along the way

of fields and flowers
dirt poor mornings –
with honeysuckle pillows there
I knew you
in the sweetest way –
by moments scattered
everywhere

of promise shared
and others buried –
to make a fire of bodies worn
by something more than everafter –
seasons cleft
another born

into a place
of resurrection –
names the least of all we knew
how it was
the soul remembered
the road I took
in finding you

. . .

measure more than some ~

trustme

i garnered
strength
tho my heart laid bare
when darkness came
and bound me there

in places far
from all I loved –
from all I’d sworn to be
into the shadows
heaven followed me

with something more
than pardon
a measure more than some
when bruised –
I found my weary soul
at home

touched by grace
I could not see –
by love I had not earned
beyond the touch
I’d waited –
was every truth
returned

. . .

at once familiar ~

howcouldyouknow

now and then
I dare remember
all I wanted from the start
a beginning
without ending
a quiet flutter of my heart

it seemed so simple
in the wishing –
one night beneath the stars
as I stood atop the rafters
flanked by jupiter
and mars

without names
or constellation –
but a time to find again
someone come
at once familiar –
warm as blood
beneath my skin

for a moment
I did wonder
of the nights
to pass between
drawing near unto forever –
as a destiny unseen

by a girl
not so different
than ten thousand more
you’ve known
born of want –
another summer
when you made a wish
your own

. . .

someone else ~

sundown

I won’t pretend
to be someone else –
a shadow of myself
a petal
ne’er the same
could be a rose
or the scent of distant meadows
a thorn unto the blush
a slender glass
becoming –
some other mother’s home
I won’t pretend
the music takes me
where I cannot hear the storm
the beat
of one lone drummer
wrapping sorrow
into a song
I won’t pretend
the silence threatens
from a place beyond the dawn
from a life
I scarce remember
how it felt
to be alone

. . .

such as these ~

breath of flame

in moments
such as these –
I remember all I’ve learned –
the more I know
the more I love
in moments
such as these
the breezes lift
a fragile piece
of yesterday reminders
of swirling leaves
a warmth becoming mine
days before
and wishes for another
maybe then
we would know the truth
an eternity burned
in moments
such as these

. . .

pulled between ~

forever

of time
I make no mention
but a place for getting on
leaves and sleeves –
linen hand-me-downs
hands to fit
with other hands –
hearts to speak the same
on sleepless nights
to wonder
why
we came

as fingers bound
by nothing more
than moments pulled between
apart and through
forever here
we stay
as one begins the other –
you and I remain
I fall
you rise
to meet each sweet
refrain

. . .

slowme

I shall make bread
of letters
fill my bowl with verse
loose my fears
on the poetry of saints
forsaken the lure
of hunger
but for rhyme
my stomach burns –
loud enough to dance by
in the dark

. . .

the truth of love’s returning ~

whathavewebecome

you spoke
at length
of choices made
and more to come
with winter’s breath –

of storms
and some dark night
beyond the gale

but I didn’t fear
for what might be –
for days between
and endless

for dreams beyond
the reach of memory

you spoke of tears
and I of mercy
one for one
and all assured
we’d find our way
where there was none

but the truth
of love’s returning

I’m not the one
who waited –
while you were lost at sea
the one who stood
atop the moor
and grieved each day
for thee

I’m not the one
who cursed your touch –
who begged the spirits rise
to bar your soul
the leaving
across a jealous sky

I’m not the one
who wore your name –
or bore your children’s pain
the one who whispered
lullabies –
with tears for each refrain

I’m not the one
for losing sleep –
resigned a life of letting go
I’m not the one
forgetting –
how I lived
and loved you so

. . .

life beyond the leaving ~

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

how is it
I’ve grown weary
of the way you sip your tea –
the way you smile so unaware
of grief
that anchors me

every day –
in ten thousand ways
tho I cannot tell you why
the nights grow cold –
and I remiss
at telling you goodbye

as it was
before – as cannot be
your hand a comfort then
your voice – a whisper pining
a soulful welcome in

I wonder if you notice
or do you wonder as I do
of life beyond
the leaving –
a barter carried through

has it been years
or more to count
this distance now I feel
words without the strength to speak –
a hurt that will not heal

. . .

Author’s Note: Before you get concerned for me, I feel the need to explain. This isn’t about me, but rather the result of a conversation with a dear friend – one who has stayed beyond the leaving.
