I will speak
while still with voice
the heart recalls a psalm
and strings
somewhere playing
I was there
another home
a distance more than this
than the way behind
remembered
stories dwell
within my blood
beckon from the page
truths that I’ve forgotten
how to tell

. . .

beyond the place remembered ~

venus

embers of a faithful star
blow across the night
to fan the spark –
of another warm embrace
eyes reflect the knowing
of where we yet begin –
blessings here
I wished for
yesterday

of loss
I bear no sorrow –
no hurtful memory
love remains a treasure
mine to keep
beyond the place
remembered –
a door is opened wide
night birds call –
to another dream
I sleep

within the hope
of evermore –
is every plan I made –
a life beyond this living
undenied
a name I wear against my heart –
stories wait to tell –
of want beyond this wishing
a star prepared
to fly

. . .

author’s note – now and then, I awake in sweat,
breath catching as I wonder why
in the darkness –
words find me –
loosed without prejudice or fear

sometimes they fit together, but others, they do not
last night one of those
and these, the telling

. . .

under pretense of beginning
I find peace –
solace in knowing
you are there
silver brushed
against the light
promise ‘neath the snow

I’m an heir to earth
and heaven
a child of will and wing
sister to the mountains
the forest
and the seas
a voice formed in silence
echoing of soul
more than breath allowing
a promise on the breeze
another night
ten thousand lights
to join the worlds between
I am of love
to question not –
the daughter
of a king

years too short ~

centerhill_nov18

as once I knew
this time would be
as years too short
would circle round
from days
tho long
no longer count
I wonder still
what I shall miss
when words o mine
for none exist

for one more april
shower sweet
another warm july
will tears befall
when leaving comes
for one more this
the rest undone
as lips grown silent
wait again
the taste of wine –
of summer sun

warming verse
upon my brow
love
where love began
what future place
awaits me now
each dream –
a time
by time displaced
for one more
one more everything
another life
by moments held
somewhere filled
by years the same
as these

I feel are passing
a fleeting bliss
how much of all
I love will miss
the warmest tide
against my feet
a blanket spread
of stars

a hand
so certain
thread with mine
another dream
some other
time

. . .

alone

moonlight glows
ruby red
upon these paths of clay
a giant sleeps
beneath the coming day
dreams are without pardon –
a name upon my lips
reminds me of a lifetime
I surrendered
for a kiss

trustme

I awake in the shadow
of quarter past two
and wander these hands o’er my heart
seduced by the chatter of wingeds at night –
the lull of a spirit
in haste to depart

longing perfected
in patches of blue –
the smokey white ghost of a whispering moon
spies on my dreaming though nothing is said –
as I fall into silence
stealing verse to my bed

it’s enough
to convince me
of truths growing cold –
faith in beginning where stories unfold
I remain as the keeper tho certain insane
where all who have loved –
in pieces remain

. . .

dreamed in verse

last night
I dreamed in verses
pages as my skin
and you
an ancient desk
upon the porch
looking out on summer
where every breath is slowed –
lines were caught
and whispered
to the dark

. . .

worn out rhyme ~

stay

told me once
but I don’t recall
names and faces
line the hall
someone I’ve forgotten
to remember
a story passed
from son to son
a daughter came
the only one
to see beyond
the circumstance
of fences

broken by this
getting on
healed by hands
tired and worn
graces said before
the lay me down
to hear again
the sacred drum
beat with wonder
I’ve become
the answer to another
sweet amen

a fate decided
while I slept
reminders of a secret kept
and choices made
was there no choice
at all
but take of life
a moment more
of passions
locked away before
somewhere I was sure
you’d never find

a future folded
nice and neat
against the sunshine
of my sheets
way back on the shelf
of memory
dreams of people
I don’t know
crowding round to let me go
kisses where
the curtains touch
the ground

tell me how it seemed to you
give me something
I can do
speak of places
one last time
to leave

dirty dishes
everywhere
worn out rhyme
but I don’t care
they warm against
the places
you were there
taking notes
and stealing time
with promises
to fit with mine
lines to cross
eternities
of one

. . .

Author’s Note: While coffee is my drink of choice, I periodically
indulge in a hot tea – white with orange. It brings me sweet slumber,
up until the time it wakes me up for a trip down the hall. But even then,
it’s not without the benefit of words. Writing in the dark.

magic

e’en now
I remember
a sliver of moon
tiny white shells
on the ground
poems were written
each night
as I lay
neath a cradle of stars
– a heart without sound

committing to memory
every fissure of light
as wings gave name to the wind
I began to tell stories
of how it might be
– the grief of a sailor
returned by the sea

in search
of the lost
some answer to find
tho weaved to a locket
his share
were happiness more
than a place
on the map
a long ago something
no one compares

how the pines
loved the river
for reasons unknown
boats rushed the current
to home

birthed into fortune
restless to wake
dreaming the color
of oceans unseen
quiet keeps silent
the pulling apart –
as shores shy away
from the green

. . .

Author’s Note: A little history. I awake more
than most in the midst of the night – holding to
words I can’t say. Launched from the bed
by the promise of page – I sit in the still –
telling stories by dark. Some call them rambling;
others, meant to be.
