i have waited
with nothing of story
to wait
no pages left barren
i knew yet to write
how was it to know
how much
should i care
when the years
have gathered
black to the lines
crossing the porch
some nights
as i prayed
another would come
sunlight would break
out on the pasture
i loved
as i love
prayed for a moment
to know
as i know
i could be
as i am
everything
. . .

had i days
a million more
– words
to stretch between
nights without
the need
or want to dream
storms to shake
the rafters
gold to press the morn
coffee resurrected
by your love
had i truth
beyond intention
lies i could not bear
so much of me
with nothing left
to share
til you were come
amazing
– a sun i failed to see
how sweet the ways
the distance
became of love
you gifted
me
. . .

wherever love
has memorized
the color of my eyes
the way my hair gets tangled
with the sheets
was only this
i waited
lives to disregard
the winter ache
of rainbows
melted into flame
whatever once i noticed
convincing it might seem
how the stars aligned
within my dreams
how the morning
pressed against the shadow
of my need
remining me of
all the things
i never knew
to know
. . .

i have loved
without worry
for where it might end
slept through a dream
with no memory
of home
tasted your name
before i could speak
waited this moment
to come
i have lost
i have fallen
i have wandered away
on promises dealt
without want for the rest
without need to remember –
a love such as this
sunlight where darkness
made sense
of it all
then somewhere
forever fell from a wish –
promises meant
to be true
i tasted your name
before i could speak –
waiting a memory
of you
. . .
12 Wednesday Apr 2023
in the silence
before you spoke my name
the first
the last
my only
did remembrance
fall softer than concern
to the ways for getting back
for getting over
in the lonely
before i took your hand
did you understand
i didn’t
never could
be made to see
how sweet the every day
the many ways
you came
to love me
in the silence
before you spoke –
before you spoke
my name
. . .
01 Wednesday Feb 2023
had i waited
this
a moment more
than twilight turning red
had i listened
as night birds
drew their sighs
had i known
that heaven makes a place
near enough to breathe
to understand
the depths
where love can be
had i traded
every sorrow
when my grief was newly formed
had i bled of tears
a canyon of restraint
had i known before
you would come
to save of me the best
so far from
this beginning
would i wait
. . .

i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream
no one noticed
growing from weeds
constellations
in your eyes
i want a sunset
tennessee
or alabama
it don’t matter
to the roads
that brought us home
i want a white dress
a red painted wagon
a tractor
i can’t drive
but i can watch
you from the window
of a dream
. . .
13 Tuesday Sep 2022
forgive
the way i drift –
when swimming in your eyes
forever tempts
and i have lost my way
forgotten how it was
said i’d never love you more
take my heart
steal my breath away
forgive of me
my timing –
there’s none of me to spare
let these arms remember
how to love you
everywhere
the soul is spent
before the years –
another moment gone
grieve me not tomorrow
grant me one
last sun
