justtoday

morning shakes my courage
as evening wears me down
tho scarce the times
allowed my heart concede
to something I was chasing
living just beyond
the leaving edge of always –
sanctity I need

when broken I am nestled
into arms resolved to heal
a faraway
where strangers passed before –
a ghostly understanding
bears the echo of a sigh
sheets still warm
with telling –
as am I

dreaming

heaven pulls the
mountain –
from his fragile wedding bed
anchored by the river –
to her song
breezes grieve the lesson
dragonflies to score
this sacred place
remembered to
our soul

one more verse
to cover me –
one more birth to fall
as waters move
around me in the cold
quietly – a soft amen
rustles from the trees
brittle leaves
to dance atop
the foam

let indeed
the shadows tempt
with mysteries uncertain –
swirls beyond
this wake of mortal care
magic lies
in wilderness
bound by fragile thorns
journey on –
and I shall find you
there

missingyou

my aging skin
is the color of maps
of clay
somewhere in georgia
used to be
sometimes –
i remember that way
the fresh scent of clover
the perfume
of hay
places my skin
was touched by another
kissed by lips
the sun
to discover
nothing but whispers
as a breath on my shoulder
the etching of maps
to trace you
back home

home

from time to time
the stars align
and I wonder what we had in mind
when we wished aloud
some other day
on lights burned out
along the way

in my dreams

for this I waited —
never frightened by your touch
a lifetime spent returning home —
has taken
way too much

– loving you for reasons
you may never
understand…
the universe of you and I —
a love without demand

beyond the twilight —
shadows gather from the past
— moments never left behind
tho never meant to last

a jealous moon
once listened in
on stories left unspoken
no room for talk of what might be —
or promises unbroken

for this I waited —
for ten thousand more
I would –
what light was
never meant for light —
is seldom understood…

whatever is
will always be —
and nonetheless for time between
what evermore
was left that day —
in shadows
of a dream

leanback

turn
as I the pages
of a story
last you wrote
of home
and winding roads
to bring you here

truth
as I remember
were days a chord replaced
snow –
along the fences
left to clear

light
retains a memory
of breath along the way
wonder sits
as empty –
shadows
fall

trust
was I a moment
or more
than words can find
of choices
I am whispered –
I am all

he spoke
of distant mornings
(a light she strained to see)
she wrote
of lowly purpose
filled with love
(and mystery)

he listened
as she listened
they talked
(and talked some more)
of the road
they passed together
another way
(sometime) before

he spoke
of ancient winters
(a field where brothers fell)
she spoke
in careful whispers
of a loss
she grieved (as well)

he cried
and she was tender
(in the catching of each tear)
she reached
to find him (waiting)
(with want
to have her) near

he stayed
(beyond the leaving)
lest she ever think
him gone
as she woke
beyond the darkness
a star
(for wishing on)

the spell of twilight
burns
to steal a sky so blue ~
will then I pause
my heart in wonder
how much of time
tis breath
til you
and I are found ~
when days no longer
move to block the path returned
how many stars
were wishes trailing ~
trade but for some other
spurned –
will find a place
within my soul
reflections of another past
nights
when I was famous ~
even so ~
left my name
amid your secrets
fallen stars
now taking hold

between
the place
where truth recalled –
fingers trace
forever
worlds beyond
the weary reach of fate
folds
and constellations
secrets
made to share
endearing me

a lifetime –
but a kiss

a sigh
the same as music
was calling me to home
warmth
I knew –
you’d change
the locks
one day
rusted rhyme
to silence me –
adapts a knowing smile
of pastures walked
in step with you
beside

a night before
eternities to miss

on nights like this
the world
is but a glowing firefly
where streams
of ancient silver
swirl around
a moment of eternity
is cast from distant shores
messages unraveled
by the gods
