rustling

sometimes
at night –
I sense the river rising
a rustling of promises
racing down below
the fluttering of angels –
songbirds they are known
by those who
ease their nets
into the tide

. . .

washed from the sun ~

letmestay

the daylight
grows dimmer
with every october
tho the nightbirds sing louder
this spring
a reminder of counting
the miles to forever
broken old crosses –
lacey white wings

it seems but a moment
backward forgiving
to a place just the same –
starting again
hands held aloft
pleading with heaven
for one more tomorrow –
another amen

a quiet surrender
of midnight
and morning –
is washed from the sun
by a river of tears
recalled at the end
as a time ne’er forsaken –
when love glowed the path
of our way
back to here

. . .

recounter ~

heavenhome

permission
was given
without a word uttered
just a hand reaching out
while the world
gathered ground
I may have well asked
tho I don’t remember
much more than the salt
– my name on your mouth
the hint of confession
we’d neither recounter –
as stars fell away
to our tumbling
down

. . .

loosed again ~

grace (2)

yesterday I chattered
as silence spilled around –
gave my everything
to make it go –
to ease the ache
of restlessness –
charming as I wrote
of all I sought
and all I claimed
to know

til loosed again
from wanting
– ties that swore to bind
years confessed
a faultless void to fill
my every spare
with something more –
empty with surprise
– content to
make my home
within the still

. . .

something I forgot to tell ~

bettlerrucken ridge

it’s not so brutal
to remember –
not a distance yet to go
I close my eyes
and for a moment –
all I’ve loved
is all I know

it’s not the dream
that keeps me dreaming –
nor a prayer
when I’m alone
it’s not the days
I know will dwindle
til the stars
recall me home

something more
is meant for sharing
something I forgot to tell
how the mountains
sense our pleasure –
higher still
when loved we
well

. . .

love endured the taking back ~

sundayme

when birth became
another time
a parting from the whole –
slant as I from dying
with fissures
to my soul
remembering
another time –
and words I gave for free
another life
was mine to love –
was once
another me

where verses carved
into my heart –
rhyme I scarcely used
love endured
the taking back
another day of you
pages fret forgotten lines
ink – I’m bound to grieve
for moments folded
into life –
truths I willed
believe

. . .

worried anew ~

fireflies

there’s something here
more than life –
or the mourning of beats
strum
strum
strum
from the depths of becoming
a devil –
a saint
worried anew
o’er things we have lost
tho tied not a fret
to the things we have not
–  ways we let go
or the path walked upon
forgotten the promise
made long ago
prayers rarely granted
by those without sin
to those without measure
for where love
begins

. . .

one more birth to fall ~

dreaming

heaven pulls the
mountain –
from his fragile wedding bed
anchored by the river –
to her song
breezes grieve the lesson
dragonflies to score
this sacred place
remembered to
our soul

one more verse
to cover me –
one more birth to fall
as waters move
around me in the cold
quietly – a soft amen
rustles from the trees
brittle leaves
to dance atop
the foam

let indeed
the shadows tempt
with mysteries uncertain –
swirls beyond
this wake of mortal care
magic lies
in wilderness
bound by fragile thorns
journey on –
and I shall find you
there

. . .

shadows of you ~

fein

i’m a frayed
recollection
smokey and grey
a vision of promise
by life
overlayed
secrets and signs
hands you once knew
like a path
through the darkest
shadows of you
as lone silver skies
valkries in flight
removed at the slightest
illusion
of light

. . .

they never said ~

neartohome

how many times
the coming back –
across ten thousand years
to realize
what wasn’t real –
how life could disappear

like everything
we wished for –
when came the time to leave
holding still to all we loved –
dreams we dared
believe

they never said
nor once confessed
the truth of love’s restraint
to fold across
eternities
wherever life remains

a beginning
never ended –
just beyond the reach of fate
love released of wanting
beyond this sorrow –
waits
