justtoday

morning shakes my courage
as evening wears me down
tho scarce the times
allowed my heart concede
to something I was chasing
living just beyond
the leaving edge of always –
sanctity I need

when broken I am nestled
into arms resolved to heal
a faraway
where strangers passed before –
a ghostly understanding
bears the echo of a sigh
sheets still warm
with telling –
as am I

dreaming

heaven pulls the
mountain –
from his fragile wedding bed
anchored by the river –
to her song
breezes grieve the lesson
dragonflies to score
this sacred place
remembered to
our soul

one more verse
to cover me –
one more birth to fall
as waters move
around me in the cold
quietly – a soft amen
rustles from the trees
brittle leaves
to dance atop
the foam

let indeed
the shadows tempt
with mysteries uncertain –
swirls beyond
this wake of mortal care
magic lies
in wilderness
bound by fragile thorns
journey on –
and I shall find you
there

save me your words
the rest of your story
breathe me
to breath
steady and slow
the taste
of a poem –
verses made mention
rhyme i’d forgotten
to tell you
i know
leave me
to dreaming
slipped between pages

passed into

the psalm
of your soul

my aging skin
is the color of maps
of clay
somewhere in georgia
used to be
sometimes –
i remember that way
the fresh scent of clover
the perfume
of hay
places my skin
was touched by another
kissed by lips
the sun
to discover
nothing but whispers
as a breath on my shoulder
the etching of maps
to trace you
back home

did I carry you

across ten thousand winters
to remember
only this

another time
an endless sky
stars we knew by name
leaving us to wonder
why we loved –
why we came

for every life
are moments cleft –
paths we walked upon
denying death the evermore
where memory is gone

almosthomenow

frame this horizon
with all I have witnessed
crowd to the corner
where heart meets to soul
bear me the weight
no more than a memory
of destiny traded
to a dream long ago

laundry and laces
cracked oatmeal glasses
parts given way
as collections laid bare
black and white stories
are telling without us
faded a photo
of a photo somewhere

who is that boy
at the edge of the smiling
where now his reasons
though lost once before
held by a longing
bigger than pardon
when left his horizon
my own to restore

home

before as now
the same as then –
do you remember where and when
the world was new
but so were you
awake to
understanding

afraid and stilled
at finding truth
was never meant to lessen youth
or ease the heart
tho torn apart –
resolved the soul
to hurting

only love
can calm the storm –
years from where we started from
reminders of a time before
calling us to love once more –
cured only by
the aching
