all I know, find me, journey, life, love, mystery, questions, searching, sometimes, spirit, time, truth

how far
from where you left me –
are there traces to be found
broken twigs
whispers
marks upon the ground

places
I may find you –
lest I search beyond the veil
for the path you took
and there my heart
as well

branches bent
to block the sun –
winter wheat to ash
no one keeps your memory
and I can’t bear to ask

which way
the moon will follow
to find a promise made
past the barn
down the night –
another once we lay

how far
from where you left me
are there traces to be found

. . .

sunday after all ~

a light on the porch, carry me home, forgotten path, journey, life, love, memory, time

the path is worn
as if o’er time –
the way might be erased
tho flowers bloom each Sunday
after all
midnight yearns
and I have learned –
tis not for me to squander
the hope for one more
morning –
wherever promise falls

each time
I think I might be gone
I find the door ajar –
locks once held the windows
rusted now
lights I thought would never burn
stream a golden pasture
echoes ring
remember me –
should e’er your heart
allow

. . .

never changed ~

dreams, easy, home, journey, life, locks, love, morning, seasons, story, time, trust, waiting since you left, welcome in

I’ve been waiting
out the winter –
for another sweet hello
as headlights press
the darkness like a ghost
there’s a map
inside my dresser –
silver lines against the blue
doesn’t matter
where we start
if I’m with you

my faith
is resurrected –
at the whisper of your name
a sigh of signs
and still my heart obeys
I can’t recall
the reasons
or how many roads
between
all I know is
all I need
to breathe again

the locks were never changed
to fit another
no plans for getting on
for getting by
don’t let the time it takes
be all that matters –

the sun still waits
all morning
for the night

all we knew of love ~

another day, becoming me, faith, journey, life, love, reflection, story, truth

I feel the blush
of a million sighs
whene’er I walk this road
as witness to the place
I go alone

when comes the blaze
of afternoon –
shades I recognize
are laced between the branches
falling round

reminders of another time
was all we knew of love –
sycamore and maple
spinning down

silence rings
in memories –
as close to now was then
whispers falling
echoes met by stone
one hundred years of living
reflected in your eyes
lifetimes come –
ten thousand
dusty roads

. . .

the long way back ~

another life, breath, find me home, hands, journey, life, light, love, memory, mountains, nature, reasons, stars, truth, walk me home

in another place
I was –
crushed beneath the shadows
bowing down my head
chasing truths
do you remember
how it was –
the giving in to silence
as the echo of ten thousand
tired boots
a night succumb
to whispers –
a morning without shame
lights beyond the highway
burning sand
do you remember
was I with you
when the mountains
fell around
as waters rushed
to fill an empty land
I know you now
as I knew you then
another life
with nothing changed
this sweet goodnight
bathed in light
is reason
why we came

howcouldyouknow

for what
was life becoming –
when for this one I yearned
a breath between forevers –
made sweet the souls
return

a kiss
I scarce remember
once cooled upon my lips –
saved into my being
as proof of love
like this

time rests
beneath the cedars –
and pulls against the moon
resolving all we dared
to touch –
yet leaving way
too soon

. . .

when comes the time ~

blessings, heart, journey, life, love, mindfulness, open, shared intimacy, the way, time, truth, we're in this together

somewhere south

the road
however lonely
becomes a place
where we belong –
a storied recollection
of other days –
another song

as sunset gathers
gently
to the edge of evermore –
we are carried
by the journey
down roads we knew
before

let me know
if you are wanting
of hands
to share the load –
arms to rock you sweetly
when comes the time
to go

. . .

not with words ~

remember me spring

there’s an field
beyond our seeking –
a place where we belong
the life we dreamed
no less
for living
another one

there’s a want
beyond the waking –
of winter wheat
and purple sword
where longing flows
the sweetest honey –
yet not
with words

there’s a silence
to all that matters
lest we grieve
for signs we missed
a truth we cannot speak of –
a promise
or a kiss

there’s a moment
I’ve heard tell –
blinding sunlight
of time displaced –
where love begins again
as always
from a memory
retraced

. . .

will returned ~

love betrays
the distance –
fortunes writ in blue
blood remembers now
the will returned
warmth remained within
as once the two
were found –
touch the same
as fire unto flame

as breath
into the breathing
tears were sorrow flowed
laughter rings

. . .

far ~

leanback

take of these
few moments –
to fill an empty page
tell of how you found me
how I waited
you to stay
tell of how it was before
tho now it feels the same
as once we were –
a breath apart
from places we remain

do you remember us
I won’t forget –
the years
they taunt my soul
with dreams
I keep repeating
beyond each letting go
tell me – lest my heart concede
fill my veins with memory –
speak to love
I’ll understand
how far you came
for me
