wow

when from these tired
bones is wrought
the last of misery
when all I know
is how I loved –
while breath
was gifted me

when from this place
stories are blown
to fill an eastern sky
will then my name
be spoke aloud
by strangers
passing by

when from my silence
words are cleft –
as secrets from a kiss
as ever –
still shall love remain
to fill each
emptiness

always

As of late, it seems I struggle with words.

No, that’s not right. It’s not a struggle really. It seems more I am resigned to a place unfamiliar (and yet not). It is a quiet peace, perhaps even a place created by grief, but not unwelcomed or uncomfortable.

It is a time of adjustment, acceptance, and clarity ~ a period of understanding that I have wondered might be related to aging, loss, or faith. Regardless, it is not cursed or filled with anxiousness. It is an unexpected blessing, a realization of grace, of love.

I miss my daddy, but it is not an ache that leaves me restless, looking for answers that I already possess. Rather, it is the little things where I find myself wishing he could share it with me (just before realizing that he does). When I round the curve on the road home and notice a group of more than twenty deer in the field near the woods; in wings fluttering along the fence line as I tend the feeder; a light through the window when I awake to the sound of my name.

Blessings.

Time is nothing but an invisible marker, a thread binding us forever to a moment – or rather binding the moment to us so that it is always the same, as near as our next breath. Ours.

We are never without love.

o little
of these –
the fairest of me
still sits
in the rain
at the edge of the sun
taking of everything
moments
come clean
rivers yet rising
shall barter
for none

sweetly
remember me
let to the lines
a piece
of forgiveness
forgotten
us now
stirred into
memory
saved to your soul
by a smile
I was wearing –
redeems me
somehow

at times
I cling to nothing
but the scent
of ancient fir –
a willingness
of dawn to bear the day
I linger in the
afternoon of lives
I dreamed before
a sip or two
of something else
when all I wanted so
was yesterday
rings upon the table
proof of joy –
wonder ne’er denied
roads returning rivers
crossways through
my heart
where stars are come
to sleep beneath
the pines

knowmenow

As of late, I’ve been criticized for being distant, quiet, unavailable, aloof, and downright selfish.

My southern grace pushes me to apologize, but the part that is protective of me – my hurts, my heart, my silence – doesn’t feel the need to say I’m sorry, for fear it will be seen as an opening door – an unwelcome intrusion into the private world that is me.

Experience has shown me that it is a fragile line which divides time I need for myself and time I gladly sacrifice for others. Perhaps that’s why it’s so noticeable, since most of my time is spent on the sacrifice side of the fence.

Years ago, I was going through a rather traumatic time, and I didn’t share it with my family. Some likely saw that as selfish, and yet, it was a difficult period and my focus needed to be on myself. I’m certain (still) that if I had shared it with others, my role would have changed into being one to helping them to get through it. It’s also possible that the shift in focus would have been good for me, even if it came with the cost of certain burden.

Sometimes (selfish or not), it has to be about me. And sometimes, it is in these times that I realize those who love me most – those who allow me whatever I need (even – and especially when – it is at odds with what they would prefer).

Thank you for allowing me the gift of oneness, the sweet rapturous void of nothing…….. ❤

what time remains
as once we gathered
shadows of the sun
hands were folded
soft into
dreams we dared become
a fallen spark
of ancient light
some other
might have been
moments held
within the space
of one

evergreen
and miles to go
home before we knew
a garden bloomed
from seeds
of yesterday
a path
not one remembers
a distant
passing through
remains the same
as these we loved
blessings to repay

nights beyond
when all I dreamed
was you

of places
that I understand
there’s another
that I don’t –
the world
where you are God
and I – your only sin

the choice of others
chose for us
a story for the telling
turning back the pages
we begin

like as one
and to another –
just the way
we are
you and I the same
so few can see

where we were –
we came from one
into the one
returning
sworn to understand
these mysteries

speak
and I already know
words within my mouth –
for there you are
in verses unforgot

sang of more
and from the depths
one moment stills the others
as different as we were
– tho we
are not

you am I
remembering
another love as this –
promises
and when the time
would be

I would leave
and you would come
forever-night to wander –
waiting in the place
we couldn’t see

I was you
and you
another autumn night –
tempted by the cold
to turn within

revealing now –
a sweet familiar
fluttering of leaves
where I was God –
and you
my only sin

Would ever I be lifted
from this place of frail abode ~
and sail beyond
the whitest clouds
to play
in daffodils
(my only will)
shall be to know again
the thought that was ~
that brought the rain to me
