once
between collisions
we dared to trace the stars
and cursed aloud
for years the passing on
wishes burnt to cinder
aren’t all to matter now
how much we dreamed
remains a distant light
beyond the shift
where shadows hide –
I worry for you there
will you still hold
my secrets –
the flame
that warms my soul

justtoday

morning shakes my courage
as evening wears me down
tho scarce the times
allowed my heart concede
to something I was chasing
living just beyond
the leaving edge of always –
sanctity I need

when broken I am nestled
into arms resolved to heal
a faraway
where strangers passed before –
a ghostly understanding
bears the echo of a sigh
sheets still warm
with telling –
as am I

did I carry you
a sigh upon my lips
across ten thousand winters
to remember
only this

another time
an endless sky
stars we knew by name
leaving us to wonder
why we loved –
why we came

for every life
are moments cleft –
paths we walked upon
denying death the evermore
where memory is gone

I’m not afraid
of falling –
that’s never been my style
though often I have sensed a willing pull
into the great
of all unknown –
a mystery becoming
at once my flight
my death –
my open arms
filled with something
more than life
more that time and tease
a wealth I knew
do you recall the way
my breath was lost in moments there –
between the dust and day
between the will
of falling
unafraid

stealmeaway

I’m the eldest
of four –
the youngest to some
and ancient to babies unborn
my eyes are the darkest
my arms the strongest
and for verse
I’m the one
unwilling to fall
when nights grow dreary
and dreams are for saving
forever a moment –
imagined one day
a slow lullabye
as rain on the pines –
for years matter nothing
at all

howcouldyouknow

now and then
I dare remember
all I wanted from the start
a beginning
without ending
a quiet flutter of my heart

it seemed so simple
in the wishing –
one night beneath the stars
as I stood atop the rafters
flanked by jupiter
and mars

without names
or constellation –
but a time to find again
someone come
at once familiar –
warm as blood
beneath my skin

for a moment
I did wonder
of the nights
to pass between
drawing near unto forever –
as a destiny unseen

by a girl
not so different
than ten thousand more
you’ve known
born of want –
another summer
when you made a wish
your own
