i have waited
for the season
you might reach for me
this way
when the snow has melted
and every fate
resigned
would that you remember
marigold and blush
of kisses sure
to bind your soul
with mine

i have waited
near the shadows –
pressed my heart
against the stars
casting out my prayers
to destiny
tempted to retreating
cotton wrapped around
touch
wherever touch
is sworn
to be

was it intended
I find you
to forget everything
of loves I had thought would
be love
to forget how my dreams
were supposed to be safe –
not lost to the moment
your arms
wrapped around
I don’t know
I don’t care
why it is –
it is all
that I feel
from my oceans
my rivers
my tears
a moment I fall
without care for the end
forever returning
to the place
we begin

from a distant place
we wondered
to find this place
(we are)
tempting fate
each time your eyes
meet mine
wherever I was destined
tis only this
recalled
familiar (as a breath)
another place
and time

whatever hurts
these lessons leave
(promise I surrendered)
a store of dreams
unburdened
by my bed
carried my confession
to let (as you would have)
the truth I dared betray
to words
I left unsaid

til I’ve forgotten
how to breathe –
let this be my one
reserve of truth
the last I knew
another way would come
a shallow breath
neglected –
forsaking all for this
e’en now my heart
is sated
by my name
upon your lips
sassafras and berry
vines to draw me near
frozen creeks
fields of winter hay
morning waits
whatever dreams
are mine to understand
wherever you –
I will find a way

I’ve not much left
to offer –
no farm beyond the fence
golden trinkets
stashed beneath my bed
no aged
name to proffer
or treasure more than this
a hand to hold
a place to lay you
down

I’ve not the will
to suffer –
faith to see you
gone
twilight burned as
fate into the barn
no destiny to barter
give me yours
I’ll give you mine
breath to share
a place to lay you
down

how much of you
a part of me –
sands atop
the floor
as blossoms
where the trees have
burned away
how much of verse
is nothing more
than once
you were
and I
was counted back
in syllables
emptied to a page
folded to
a memory
the lineage of truth
someone said
tho I’ll be damned
if I remember why
the road
is less
each time you leave
the sun no longer shines
to fill between
the whispers
rusted oak and flesh
how much I have
surrendered
is your breath
becoming mine

one more sunrise
a sparrow
taking flight
a word to rhyme with missing
arms to fit just right

another stay
the night for breakfast
if they worry
I won’t care
for a lifetime
one more sunrise –
waiting there

in dreams
where dreams are tarried
fragile breath
of candle light
as promise made –
a sparrow

I shall wait
beyond the silent
empty places
I am found –
for the resurrected moment
you return
as daybreak
thru my windows –
a voice within the dark
tis there
this dreamer dreams
we are one
I shall wait
the revelation –
as starlings taking flight
a touch without salvation
to defend
I will linger
as a promise
of some other come for me
a poet without cause
or destiny
I shall wait
the morning after
wherever hope is stored
trusting light
to find the light
in love
we knew
before

my final grace –
I held my breath
and waited
the passing down
of consequence –
falling on my knees
wanting for another place
silently to fill
lungs no longer thirsty
for the light

every best
intention
as yet tho not enough –
to starve the flame
where destiny is moored
for this
a prayer is given
without worry
for the cost –
the taking back of heaven
– dreams
I’m fondest of

a hero when the story
fell apart –

a morning more
to rise

come to me
to the fringe of dusk
when all I’ve known
is the way
to you –
where ne’er regret
is welcomed –
the velvet of his brow
his penchant
to distract
from all that matters
now

come to me
lay with me –
beneath a sky of ancients
lovers undecided
every one
breathe in me your story
grant my heart
the map –
faded lines
let these fingers bleed

come to me
a memory
come to me afraid
as proof of my good fortune
you might be
near as dawn approaches
with but a sigh
between
the shadow where you waited
come to me
