soft
your voice
upon my skin –
your stories in my ear
tell me
tell me everything
– all that you
hold dear
love
and I will let you –
will me not
to go
stay a while
stay a lifetime
let love be all
you know

would these few
these hours sweet
deny the years between
– adrift upon eternity
waiting on a
dream
would this day
be burdened –
when filled with all I know
suffered thru the coming back
– another time
to go
would these words
be truth enough
to reach beyond all I hold dear –
written as a verse
to keep you near
would the dawn
approach from some great distance
to become
the first I knew
to love you –
have I loved you
all along

would that your heart
remember us this –
asleep neath a blanket of night
dreaming our days
as atonement for touch
– burned into memory
hushed by the sight
of ten thousand ancients
falling around –
moonlight kissing the ground
I will know you the same
in places afar –
as sure was your love come for me
held to a moment
we lit up the dark –
and willed for a moment
one more destiny

enduring, enough to recall, lasting, life, love, promise, story, that which we keep, the way, time, trust, truth, wholely remembered

love will find us
regardless how far –
we’ve come from beginning
this truth to decide
love seeks for mercy
in all we endure
– longing no longer
denied
promise is pulled
as verse from the soul –
traded these wages
of sin –
syllables rent
by the taste of a name
story made over
again
whisper escapes
as dark from a dream
light formed anew
every dawn
the promise of heaven
is wingeds in flight –
echoes returning
a sigh
to your song

blessings, carry me sweetly, closer still, home, life, lifetimes, love, memory, seasons, sometimes, stars, trust, truth

as witness I was
to the place we were started
to a place in the grass
once we lay
crushed by the stars
ten thousand years older –
than once I was your
faraway
once was a dream
you spoke of it often –
gave it a name
I adore
how is it now
I’ve replaced every window
and hung up my heart
by the door
carry me now
think of me sweetly –
as a soft silhouette on the night
saved to a moment
with all we’ve forgotten –
love seeking truth –
in the memory
of light

would that you knew me
one night on the run –
out past the place fences
were strung
out past the memory
of all we’ve become –
tis a place
you knew me this way
as light
through a bonnet of cedar
and vine –
beckoning planets
the color of jade
bound us together
beyond what was lost –
tears fell a river
of rain
ribbons and lace
the burden of grace –
cigarettes burned down
the barn
dare my assumption
for all I held dear –
as near to my heart
once the stars

is this the way
(it has to be)
lest I pretend not to know
– of love where love is said aloud
called (by name)
to home
reasons you have –
and words to make me stay
(reasons you have
for keeping me
this way)
I won’t go
(please don’t let me)
– how I hate goodbyes
lines redrawn across an angry page
(yet here am I)
I won’t beg
and you wouldn’t want me
(to crawl)
I’m too old
for making good
on promises left unsaid
– too gone
(to think I came)
to lose it all

almost always, breath, destiny, it's what I do, life, love, sometimes, soul speak, truth, willing me home

she worried
o’er his story –
wept most every night
heard his songs
long after
he had played
she made her bed
but dared not rest
she woke within a dream –
was there she found him sleeping
peacefully
her destiny
a reason meant
for letting go
for letting in –
she came for but one touch
and he was saved

destiny, get me back, heart, home, it's what I do, life, love, memory, redirection, seasons, time, truth

I’m getting on
with redbud
and whiskey –
somebody told me
a tale
just today
somebody mentioned
a path you’ve been taking –
and I’ve gone
out of my way
to find you
uncertain
on my way here –
a life just beyond
somewhere I knew
I’m getting back
to a time
of beginnings –
to a season held captive
moments
too few
I’ve no regrets
no bitterness wanting –
no plans for another
some other
to find
I’m getting on
with sure redirection –
missing myself
– your heartbeat
with mine

deeper than scarlet
breathlessly red –
another sunrise
to remind me
of a path
undecided
who I’ve become –
given to life
recklessly
silver green spears
rip through the roof –
shaken by
all I believe
rivers displaced
by the burden of sorrow
as buckets pour blue
off the trees
