25 Wednesday Oct 2023
was a night
whiskey stopped working
haunted hands
held at the gate
where once tempted
by angels
or so it was thought
some other
one day –
heaven was here
unburdened by death
sweet as a voice
to remember
me home
to a place almost
not forgotten
again –
what was left to surrender
of loves
i have known
. . .

evening waits
in shadows
where once the orchard stood
i close my eyes
and granny calls
my name
another place
of just beyond
i’ll get there when i can
seems smaller now
weeds beneath
the boards
save me back
take me here –
wherever lives ten thousand
i’ve forgotten now
how i knew their ways
press your words
against my words –
your sigh
a mystery
breathe me home –
a map
of memories
. . .
Author’s Note: Sometimes I linger over words for no reason, so when I’m done (close enough), I read them aloud. If my hand finds my heart in the process, I know I’ve chosen well the words that can’t be said.

tis all i have
these empty arms
a want to have them filled
a fragile ache
reminding me of home
tis all i need
one more hello –
the memory of morning
the warmth of sunday
sheets
against my hope
tis everything
i knew you were
the moment i was found
to find your whispers
living here
somehow
tis everything
i want –
only this
only this
words across a table
only this –
only now
. . .

were yesterday
a promise
for another we might find
a path between
the cedars
arms outstretched
walking blind
for a moment
for a lifetime
let me dare
to close my eyes
let me feel the dirt
beneath my feet
your drum
within each sigh
wordless words
as souvenirs
of a story not yet made
dreams beyond
the memory of sleep
tarry here
as i would still
for one more day with you
one more place
and i with rooms
to keep
your heart as i remember
your breath –
the same as mine
words beyond the reach
of words
destiny
divine
. . .
18 Thursday May 2023
sacred divine
moments made over
left with a note
by the gate
tell me again
how long you are leaving
how near
to returning
this missing of late
like promise
made real
as everything
somewhere
out past the creek
rolling in green
remember me now
a vow of surrender
aligned me with stars
with wishes unseen
caught in my hair
do you remember
me now
some sacred divine
with permission
to stay
a lifetime to prove
as a matter of fate
write me a letter
tell me a story
how long are you leaving
how much more
shall i wait
. . .

within these
lonely hands
once your love
permitted –
flush against my breast
do you remember
how it was
the ways we came
to realize
our love
our lowly purpose
when the sky went dark
was for this
you came around
words
beneath an echo
of wings –
a wilderness
pressed into the tender
of my need
do you remember
how it was
the ways we came –
surrender
the winds have died
but lonely hands
they grieve
. . .

i have loved
without worry
for where it might end
slept through a dream
with no memory
of home
tasted your name
before i could speak
waited this moment
to come
i have lost
i have fallen
i have wandered away
on promises dealt
without want for the rest
without need to remember –
a love such as this
sunlight where darkness
made sense
of it all
then somewhere
forever fell from a wish –
promises meant
to be true
i tasted your name
before i could speak –
waiting a memory
of you
. . .
22 Wednesday Mar 2023
despite my
resolution
to keep you arms away
a distant sun –
i couldn’t reach by car
a voice
almost for certain
not quite faded
still i grieve
the sound of your hello –
it doesn’t matter
where you are
i’m tortured
by the notion
you would let me go
this way –
you don’t speak my name
don’t feel the same
some days
despite my sore confession
i don’t love you –
still i do
tis not for me to ever
understand
how it is my heart
remembers
everything
i never said
destiny
i dare not lay to rest
everything you are
to love –
is all i am
