on this sweltering dawn
I stand barefoot on a narrow step
looking out through eyes
blurred by emotion
seeking an unknown part of my past
a place I must have known
would find me here
with no one yet to answer
but for me
the purple buds are tempted
another week to stay
sorrow comes easily
as in the counting still –
of friends he seems
more willing than the rest
to listen as my heart concedes
I knew not when to break
or what of verses now
would yesterday
forsake
silent
raindrops
will comfort me now
a hundred times – of listening
volumes unconfessed
across a missing
separated –
mourning
words of love
how long this day
in coming
was there time before this loss
I can finally begin to recite
in an almost whisper
ten thousand volumes
of verse I never shared
and let my heart beat steadily
the celestial rhythms
of mourning
and show you the depths –
sentiment
hidden for the lifetime
that has separated us

o tell me again
of a moment so dear
could cleave from my soul
the remembrance
of ache
would weave
of the losing
a tapestry fine
wrapped as it was
to the story began
blest be the grieving
til nothing is lost
but an emptiness
filled by a kiss long ago
wrench from my sorrows
the mercy of love
– to remain
when the earth
is gone cold
let not these arms
be deceived by the chill
this bed
by the falling apart
tempt not these lips
in silence
to squander –
the richness of story
held by the heart

if ever
i were asked to give –
of everything i own
were sorrows but for tears –
a garden grown
names repeated quietly
indifference to the night
– of touch
the heart reminded
by failing light
would e’er i know
or e’er i dream –
no cause for letting go
of places
i was meant to love you so
lest ashes blow
or winters grace –
some wreath upon my door
or longing fit
as hands i held
before
would e’er i curse
the sure release –
of moments gathered here
of lives to come
but none as this –
so dear
my knees to bruise
i know they will
i fall most every time
repeating words
of gratefulness –
for all was once
(is ever) mine

of scars
all but faded
the beginning is lost –
no reminder is left
of the pain
of stories we started
forgotten us now
were given us choice
to remain
more than a few
are sealed within lies –
a place I was going
when fell by the way
given to truth
I thought would oblige
souvenirs kept
with the blade
crisscross
remember –
threads into silk
moments reweaved
by their coming apart
letters have worked their way
into skin –
scars running clean
to the heart

stilled
within a silence
I’d forgotten how it felt –
strained against another
left unsaid
taken
by forever dreams
beyond my lover tears
fated list I made
for why I was
stayed behind –
kept inside
sitting with my sadness
baking bread
and singing to the night
circles drawn
to restlessness –
let me be the longer
folded into joy
the storms betrayed
echoes of a sorrow
cross the darkest sea –
safe within
the drowning –
reminders now to swim

let me not
an ending be –
or seams sewn taught
by time
let me not
the blossom –
without thorn
as dust pervades
a polished floor
with imprints of the past
bless’ed soul
– this calling out
to be
keep me not
afraid to fall –
til all have felt my ache
as voices roll
beside me
in the dark
grant me not
a place forgot –
but shining brighter still
for those who fell
another day –
my brokenness
to heal
let me not
forgiveness save
within my eager breast
or kisses
tainted lies –
I shall not give
this longing rest
let me not
when time is gone
be haunted by regret
would seal within
my grieving –
gratefulness
hymns where none
are playing –
light beyond this light
if e’er my love
be finished –
I am none

fleeting blush
of butterflies –
eyes were never blind
strain the gypsy threads
undone by time
hopeful arms of bounty
yearn into
the way
was waiting greener
on the other side
when all we knew
of suffering
is where the parting fell
resting now
beneath the mossy page
nature keeps
no memory
of who was first to die
given up her pen
as flags were raised
spills her tale
as waters rise
to wash away our past
– flutters
neath a vast
forgiving sky

show to the fallen
the strength into flying –
the broken
of bliss to reclaim
the place we were going
was yesterday here
we walked through a world
not the same
assurance
the word we dare
not remember –
take not of these for thy own
blind me believing
another hereafter
is written to pages
unknown
of all
and of none –
of every we are
together no different
the way
warned of the flame
held without love –
and left unprepared
for the pulling away
bless us
forgive us
grant us compassion
for more than the grieving
connecting us all
help us in holding –
the world for our reaching
for the one who sits broken
tomorrow shall fall
