sweetly

where
the wind
a moment spoke
in breezes
to the ocean –
a time or two
when trusted you
to stay

whispers
wake me –
all the night
around me wraps
with wanting
for one more time
– one more
yesterday

to live within
this consequence –
sworn to breathless
morning –
sometimes
I feel your presence
moving there

wondering
of where the winds
and where –
the waves are singing
songs I once
remembered
everywhere

. . .

Author’s note: I love the ocean – and the mountains. When I am on the shore,
I can close my eyes, and there – the sound of leaves pushing one into another.
When among the trees, I close my eyes and hear waves upon the sand. The
songs are the same – love speaks a language all can understand.
A story told by evergreen writ upon the tides.

forget
of then
remembered when
we might have known some other
ways to go
the long way
leading here
distances becoming
the memory of more
trace to trees
dirty feet
and graces
holding near

the weary one
I’ve known a few
and more
I could not name
are sleeping
with the angels
yet tonight
safe beyond the reach
of words –
wooly warms
and warriors
listen now their prayer
for fearless flight

ages past
as nowhere else
they know
of ways I’ve come
and how the ache
has kept a page
within
salted by my sorrows
lifted high
my bliss
remembered me
of all I willed

birthdaymorning

daybreak makes
for tangled verse
last night’s
let’s remember
the lay of light
against the night
– a slow and sweet
surrender

as breath
into the winter stilled
poems press another
of long ago –
we willed a place
in time
letters wrapped in ribbon
hide beneath the bed
– verses sweat
to martyr every line

from all that was
to garner this
– sorrows held apart
someone wrote
their name into the fold
the memory
of breaking
fences
fears
and heart
silent hallelujahs fill
the soul

. . .

fell to rhyme ~

restme

days
are but a poem penned
years no longer matter
the sun
is setting low
beneath the pines

waiting there
the anxious moon
to fill her nights
with wonder
her every want – a magic
fell to rhyme

lay me here
stay me here –
in mystery made sweeter
wrap my wish
in memory
– a crush of love
divine

of truth
the soul remembers
as falling
tears became
a promise made
– what more the light
might bring

settled down
these wantings –
of cedar planks
and pine
songs are writ
to circles –
angels sing

back into
the starting
and who would blame
our grief
for seasons
thrice denied
the taking in

winter pulls
the shadowed moon
with longing
for the first –
willing only this –
to love again

within the breath
of now begins
another page I write
with only this
– a memory
of flight

flashing lights
betray the dark
and once again
I follow
the coming back
where I shall find you new

swept along
on lullabies –
sing me home
another
time we passed
of moments –
o so few

prayers awake
as secrets take
the heed
of my confession
to speak aloud
the poetry of trust

gather me
carry me –
will me now
to hurry
– my soul is freed
to wear the name
of love

berries wake
as redbirds
sacred course to fly

afterlife

ancient spires
our secrets hold
souls to love before
sorrows wept
in folds of silent joy

whispers
guard a faithful moon
lovers turn into
the still of dreams
forgotten to us
now

dreams
 here becoming
of moments allowed –
from times
unforgotten –
the ways we are now

as a drink
from your waters –
as an ache
to your touch
your kiss lingers lightly
– as a haunting
of love

where I was
now I’ve come
with all that I own
confessing
to shadows –
a long ways from home

in the places
you wander –
do you see me sometimes
in the movement
of venus –
where heavens
align

rememberedmehome

I’ve heard
them tell
of summer storms
beyond the reach
of winters –
of places where the spring
has gone to stay
wrapped around
a bitter bark –
falling into sorrow
a time to keep
of lifetimes
yesterday

held us here
with promise –
with want for one last time
a life reserved
if ever fate allowed
given will to gather
lest we choose
another way –
beholding not to
consequence
somehow

changing
as were seasons
passing us to years –
golden crowns
with ribbons furling grey
wherein our faith
is measured –
a truth
we carry still
of times we lived
for this –
another day

. . .

the same as night ~

tearsarefalling
might I help you
to remember –
of moments (all but gone)
how sweet the rain
(of words)
against the moon

of graces given
heart and soul –
(and when will you
return)
to chase the chill
another rhyme to bloom

as whispers
pass unspoken
the same
(most every time)
a promise scattered far
on ancient wings

willing us to wonder
did you know
(how could you know)
of birds
the same as night
ten thousand sing

their way across
a paper sky –
(once you told me why)
tho everything
(my everything)
has changed

deeper now –
the places kept
are tempered
into bone –
with all I know –
(familiar
falls) the rain
