missingyou

my aging skin
is the color of maps
of clay
somewhere in georgia
used to be
sometimes –
i remember that way
the fresh scent of clover
the perfume
of hay
places my skin
was touched by another
kissed by lips
the sun
to discover
nothing but whispers
as a breath on my shoulder
the etching of maps
to trace you
back home

did I carry you
a sigh upon my lips
across ten thousand winters
to remember
only this

another time
an endless sky
stars we knew by name
leaving us to wonder
why we loved –
why we came

for every life
are moments cleft –
paths we walked upon
denying death the evermore
where memory is gone

everywhere
sleepy eyes
I see you there
amid the fog of days
imagine my surprise
to find you here
stuck between the laces
breath against my neck
measured verses
ringing soft and clear
a kiss
was not forsaken
for I knew you just this way
the taste
to reminisce
of another almost this
I saw you in the morning
just today

now and then
I dare remember
all I wanted from the start
a beginning
without ending
a quiet flutter of my heart

it seemed so simple
in the wishing –
one night beneath the stars
as I stood atop the rafters
flanked by jupiter
and mars

without names
or constellation –
but a time to find again
someone come
at once familiar –
warm as blood
beneath my skin

for a moment
I did wonder
of the nights
to pass between
drawing near unto forever –
as a destiny unseen

by a girl
not so different
than ten thousand more
you’ve known
born of want –
another summer
when you made a wish
your own

forever

of time
I make no mention
but a place for getting on
leaves and sleeves –
linen hand-me-downs
hands to fit
with other hands –
hearts to speak the same
on sleepless nights
to wonder
why
we came

as fingers bound
by nothing more
than moments pulled between
apart and through
forever here
we stay
as one begins the other –
you and I remain
I fall
you rise
to meet each sweet
refrain

you spoke
at length
of choices made
and more to come
with winter’s breath –

of storms
and some dark night
beyond the gale

but I didn’t fear
for what might be –
for days between
and endless

for dreams beyond
the reach of memory

you spoke of tears
and I of mercy
one for one
and all assured
we’d find our way
where there was none

but the truth
of love’s returning

snowondust

I was at last
an eager breath –
the scent of snow on dust
a place of nearly nothing
how I felt
when you were gone
going –
which and still
I wonder now
but I’ve returned
somehow
in learning
none are gone away –
the journey
blooms with seeds
from yesterday

. . .

Regardless the journey, we are never lost to love nor us to it.  Where we are, it is……..  We carry love; it carries us.  Home is a place to which we are always going….a familiar we’ve never forgotten.
