blessedbe

How many times
The wanderer
Is met with angry skies
And nowhere
Quite the same
To lay me down
With words
A touch mistaken
A long way back
To find
The road is gone
The brightest star
Alone
Beneath this page
For turning
Numbers
Nameless fate
Fortunes raised
To hide
The deepest scar
Proof that I am healing
Evidence of love
Roads I carry still
Beneath my skin

love betrays
the distance –
fortunes writ in blue
blood remembers now
the will returned
warmth remained within
as once the two
were found –
touch the same
as fire unto flame

as breath
into the breathing
tears were sorrow flowed
laughter rings

leanback

take of these
few moments –
to fill an empty page
tell of how you found me
how I waited
you to stay
tell of how it was before
tho now it feels the same
as once we were –
a breath apart
from places we remain

do you remember us
I won’t forget –
the years
they taunt my soul
with dreams
I keep repeating
beyond each letting go
tell me – lest my heart concede
fill my veins with memory –
speak to love
I’ll understand
how far you came
for me

windowtomyheart

Of all the things we carry with us, home is perhaps the lightest.

Every year or so, I find reason to be in the area where my grandparents lived for most of my life. Each time, my initial response is the same ‘who moved the house closer to the road?’

In my memory, the yard was huge, as was the orchard and the pond. It was surely a day’s walk to my grandpa’s store (rather than the quarter mile it is now). And how could such a little house and little porch hold so many people, so much love?

In the confines of my heart, the roof pushes against my breastbone and apples fall to the safety of little hands.

We may move, and we may know the feel of many floors beneath our naked feet……..but always, there is something greater we carry with us. We may wander, but we never really leave.

*sigh*

there’s no sign
to point the way
no wear upon the road
but I’d swear
the air is cleaner
in this place

beyond the want
for getting back –
someone waits me now
denied the fault
for leaving –
opened arms of grace

hands

these hands
remember everything
e’en when my brain resigns
the memory of gift –
of skin
beholding skin
all that I’ve known
loved and more
blessed
and blessed again

let not my wealth
become my prize –
tis less than I perceive
awaits my willing soul
some other dawn

take from me
take everything –
but what my hands recall
let that remain
to comfort me
the sweetest gift
of all

“We’re raising the bar on generosity, reminding ourselves
to hold our possessions lightly and open-handedly. The challenge
is to give away something that is precious to you, either in
value or significance, being willing to surrender it for someone
else’s benefit.”  In doing so, we echo the lessons
of ten thousand kings – ‘everything comes from you’ ❤

heavenhome

where and when
the stars resigned
to line us up this way
would find us near
beginning
at the first –
some other day

you knew me then
know me now
for lifetimes yet to claim –
for yesterdays
so far away
from all we’ve come
to name

trust
and who will take it
without want to understand
roads I once imagined
you remain
more than verse
can memory give –
surrendered
to the place
we’ve come again

light on clouds

do you remember
Sundays –
how sunlight
filled the covers
how warm
the breath of coffee
brewing whispers
to the soul
a lifetime gathered
sweetly
to the fold

do you remember
how it wasn’t
the same as any other –
waffles left
for later in the day
do you remember
making story
from a moment
we were touching
words –
becoming places
we will
stay

reflection

rivers
remember
their way to the sea
swallows by memory
come home
across each beginning
to a time
without name –
how sweet each surrender
to places unknown

backward and onward
upward
set free –
ten thousand lives
to recall
mercy is taken
when all else is lost –
grace in desire
to fall

the edge of forever
but a journey began –
willing our way
to return
stars without memory
of a wish
spoke aloud –
long before night
thought to burn

rememberedhere

did you write
of my touch –
in a story one night
did you dream
of these years
worn away

did you swear
every memory
was mine to infer
each promise –
as light
just returning
to day

is my name
but a prayer –
at the end of your life
my heart –
but a place
still to know

do you miss
me sometimes –
do your eyes fill with tears
when reflecting
on moments
let go
don’t let go

beyond the fear
of knowing
a knowledge greater still
than all the books
remembered
in their prime

beyond the grace
of letting be –
the first sweet breath
of life –
a memory returned
of squandered time

sorrow bears
the taking back –
yet grieves for days
between
when all we loved
remains as tears
divine
