will ever this
the cold reveal –
a plan
for early spring
buds are sleeping
safely
by the gate
dreams have been
forsaken
to seasons
come and gone –
morning swears
allegiances
to fate
to years behind
steps unknown –
for all I have another
remembered now
in silent lullabies
as echoes falling
tender –
curses none can hear
timbers weep
with every sweet
goodbye

sweet the skin
forever stained –
with hint of evergreen
where want
became of ivy
mystified
a patch of purple clover
the lull of widow’s moss
is pulled into
the places
we are loved
twilight burns
above the boughs –
whispers roost
between
a shake of falling wishes
feathers wake
in memorizing
lives before –
these lessons to reveal
clouds apart
with all night long
to climb
. . .

how soft
to lay
the blossoms down –
as anchors
for the weed
a carpet spread
beyond the dusty wood
sings to me of
summer –
another day as this
we shared a breath
in silence
and wondered if
we should
of all
we’ve known
how many there
remember us by name
an essence
swirling hue
of cedar smoke
gathered into leaving
holds us here
sometimes –
a universe for every
secret spoke
tell me
of another –
of ancient will removed
dreams are curled
against the window pane
where yesterday
the thistle
sprouted from our words
reached to catch
a taste
of summer rain

for more than this
I faint would ask –
or tary on my knees
reminded not of pleadings past –
this blessing to appease
for more than sin
my honor paid –
more than stones to cast
as feathers
born of ancient flight
are given rise
at last
on western winds
a southern charm
is left our truth to tell
were nights
we lost to sleeping
the dreamer to dispel
broken boughs
left scattered bout –
forgotten where and when
the soul was saved
to coming back
with choice to break
again
. . .

might I go
the way of winters –
lest you speak
of me sometimes
as fault
to resurrect
the lonely chill
was known
before our knowing
wrapped us close
around
within the night
ten thousand lights
burned out
might I stay
beyond the leaving
in colors
you know best –
autumn red
and souvenirs
of wing
blossoms burst
as song to flame –
with melody
of one
time was lost
when we as light
became
a moment
willed to whispers
e’en now
to silence cling
as moonlight
pressed –
into the proof
of love
. . .

he said
the stars are fading
I feel it in my bones
will I wake
to find you sleeping
here alone
beneath a moon
we weaved into
another dreamless night
will I wake
beyond this memory
of flight
she said
I’ll have another –
maybe half a cup
let me sit here
while the sun is coming up
reminding you
the reasons
you let me stay this long
for another day –
another almost
gone
he said
you’ve always known me –
I warned you
from the start
of places unprotected
by my heart
how often
yet I wonder
how you come to be so wise
when I see ten thousand questions
in your eyes
she said
of times
unspoken –
was I first to hold you near
the last to kiss –
the last
to disappear
you wonder
when I wander –
how I wish
that you could know
there is nowhere I am going
you won’t go
