evening burns
against my skin –
as I recall another
a winters night
ten thousand wishes made
your hands
becoming all the world
had I lived
for just one life
to carry you –
a kiss
I chose to save

when all my days
are nothing –
but a soothing breeze recalled
when memory has left
the only ones
remained of all
I loved
I loved completely –
with life
til I was sore
who will tell the story best
of all the days
before
who will know
to worry –
for purpose yet undone
as those endeared
beside me lay –
and those resolved
to stone
will e’er my shadow
linger
in places not so far –
or will my name
become a prayer
wherever lovers are
. . .

it’s been awhile
these days between
the first kiss
and the last –
years have rolled
as thunder
through my bones
reminders of the summers
we laughed
until we cried
knee deep in the river
that was life
. . .
in loving rememory –

dreams, home, life, love, nature, one more day, promise, somewhere 'round here, stars, story, whispered forevers

take me down
a forgotten path –
let me stay
wherever ancient cedars
brush the sky –
where wishes fall
ten thousand
from your eyes
I will dreaming
find you –
near as are the stars
a canopy of breath
captured light
cling to me
a promise –
more than there be words
a forgotten path
beyond the reach
of night
. . .

had I known
the day was ending
and there would be
for me
no more
might I have loved
a little deeper –
for the loves
I’d known before
remaining with
my solace –
like a hurt
that wouldn’t mend
was a place
beyond the telling –
I would never be
again

my heart’s
gentle strumming
wakes me at two –
with reminders of all
I had meaning
to do
early
as daybreak
evening did fall
and I like a sinner –
brought down
by it all
as I lay awake
dreaming
a smile finds my lips –
prayer
saved for mornings
like this

feelings tethered –
tied to blessing
leaving holy traces there
long removed
yet still becoming –
what shall be
of all we bear
I wonder still
of ways we came –
dirty roads
and back to home
from the start
always returning
for what is gathered
to the soul
pages gift
from one another
story made
of witness shared
how we lived
is how we tarry
kept in moments –
everywhere
. . .

these hands
remember everything
e’en when my brain resigns
the memory of gift –
of skin
beholding skin
all that I’ve known
loved and more
blessed
and blessed again
let not my wealth
become my prize –
tis less than I perceive
awaits my willing soul
some other dawn
take from me
take everything –
but what my hands recall
let that remain
to comfort me
the sweetest gift
of all

“We’re raising the bar on generosity, reminding ourselves
to hold our possessions lightly and open-handedly. The challenge
is to give away something that is precious to you, either in
value or significance, being willing to surrender it for someone
else’s benefit.” In doing so, we echo the lessons
of ten thousand kings – ‘everything comes from you’ ❤

in the still
where I am nothing
but the breath
that bears my soul
I remember
all I’ve held –
from miles ago
without the weight
of time –
without the need
for letting go
I remember how it was
to love you so
