by home another way, destiny, home, life, love, once upon a fairytale, one day, remembered, time

started a day
not so strained
not so far
from how many others
one day
just the one
but to remember
it now
how the clouds seemed so close
heaven as near
were your eyes
a sweet
recognition
of a place never left
home just the same
as your heart –
everything
a whisper shared
by the pines
(a song
i’d forgotten to sing)
a voice recalled
from a far distant place
was you –
i awaited
to dream

would that i grieve
the weight of your voice
the warmth of the sun
in your smile
a breeze of breath
recalled to a sigh
moments
where promise we left
wherever tomorrow
remembers me yours
as rain from the roof
falling down
as sunlight spilt
even now by the barn
and carved
through the pines
a careless goodbye
was never intended
the way
turning home
forgotten how sweet
to arrive
. . .

words are offered
unyielding –
scrapped from pages
divine tho they be
moments
split open
and scattered
are gift to the soul
with comfort to seek
verses and
poetry
rhyme sometimes raw
as blood turned
to ink
by the page
by the fall
who will remember
how it was then
we wrote
without thinking
without feeling
at all
what was meant
unintended
as a line spoke aloud
as truth
we were hoping to breathe
who shall give voice
to some other
we were –
poetry left the heart
to receive

from the silken green
of sleeping –
a night where stars are freed
swimming where your eyes
were met with mine
trading lace and story
for another
other time
witness to my pleading
come to me –
let my heart be broken
I won’t grieve
for lives between
tis only this –
reminding me of home
leave your box
of letters
just outside my door
teach me how to fly
let me fall
stay the night
stay til morning –
breathe my name aloud
as trade for one more kiss
a flannel dream
keep within your promise
heaven e’er you wake
beyond this night
of waiting –
come to me
. . .

in moments
such as these –
I remember all I’ve learned –
the more I know
the more I love
in moments
such as these
the breezes lift
a fragile piece
of yesterday reminders
of swirling leaves
a warmth becoming mine
days before
and wishes for another
maybe then
we would know the truth
an eternity burned
in moments
such as these
. . .

gather me home, home, life, light, love, remembered, sacred intimacy, spirit, sweet, touch

it seems a day
or maybe more –
since the aching
of darkness
remembered to light
since the morning
came softly
in search of a reason
a place to keep memories –
a broken down gate
sits at the parting
where all is forgotten
but the sweet velvet brush
of heaven on skin
a whispering promise
of silent surrender –
of all that is certain
given whole
to the night
. . .

Now and then, I’m reminded of the unique wonder that is inherent to our living, loving, and journey through the number that becomes our days.
And while most travels are the same, others can vary based on age, our place in the world, and even the area where we are born to.
Just yesterday, I made the trip to see my mother, some thirty minutes down the road. Along the way, I passed a place I have overlooked hundreds of times, but this time was different. I noticed a cluster of trees and just as I passed, I realized there was a worn down path – a road (less traveled) that navigated between them, through them.
And just like that, I was at another place of my life. I was 18.
While I don’t for one minute think that ‘parking’ is unique to the south, I think that every place we find love is unique in some way – even if only unique to us (every kiss, the first, the sweetest ÷ the only).
In the south (or at least in my part of the South), we would never spend a Saturday night in the backseat of a car when the option of a blanket of clover beneath and stars above is so readily available.
could I tell you
the truth of this –
of secrets writ to skin
of nights
not left to injury or scar
the memory returning us
not so weary
not so far
to fields where clover blooms
beyond the stars
. . .

for lifetimes
unnoticed
you passed as the breeze
as the song of a sparrow
light through the trees
do you remember
another
tho none can compare
you swore in your leaving
to find me somewhere
with a name
not quite taken
in a place
not too far
from moments we tarried
making love
by the stars

I have not many
but to be
as I was meant
– some solace
to the fallen
I repent
the blessing
come of letting
– the bliss
of leaning in
to places unforgotten
I ascend
to wonder
where
and what might be
– for this
will I return
as colors into maple
rivers burn
remember me
to shadows –
sweetest breath
within the cold
of breaking –
there the beauty
– taking hold
as nothing more
for only this –
such truth
as love revealed
a sigh
within the silence
holds me still
