what measure this –
the meeting
of ancient light to soul
in stories
tell me once again –
before my bones grow cold

brittle
as beginning they
warmed within your arms
gather me
tether me –
against the sweet foretelling
of alarm

where name becomes
a memory –
some other life begins
beyond this golden sunset
I exist –
remember how I loved
how I’ll miss

the making of each moment
within the nights to come

let me go
how far and still –
already
I’ll be home

story of the soul

there’s a sound
that sorrow makes
in still dark rooms –
a void
beyond the burden
an anguished understanding
would you know
for whom I grieve
daffodils I planted
yesterday

on paths of stone
hearts are rent
life recalls its meaning
with circumspect
reminders
was this the way
we came
searching out our others –
the truth
we gave away

catcher

salvation comes
I prayed it –
ten thousand selfish nights
a day returned
to open wide my heart
cast aside the worrying
let alone the past
too many where I waited
til I’ve forgotten you
before the dawn
remembers
another prayer
I knew

sometime still_edited

in a season for(giving)
of all that we’ve known
the essence of snow laden pines –
shadowy lovers
of reason resigned
to the wind out my window
words seeking rhyme

how many I wonder
as I have before –
what cost for a memory
leaves nothing to shame
choosing surrender
as the pathway to truth –
lingering silence
when words fall away

hands gently folded
now reach for the veil –
as a means to confession
solace of flight –
silver bells echo
backward to dreams –
bliss undeterred
by the night

prayer

how gracious this
my morning prayer
keeps me here too long
filled with names
from seasons past –
or yesterday
the same as new
forgive
and grant me courage
forgive
and grant me peace
forgive
that I might learning
do the same
for all I’ve known
to love again
and all I’ve not
released

dreamy

now and then
a song I hear
above the sound of falling
a lesson much the same
as stars deny
eternity and almost
were you there
to promise someday
we’d find our ways
across this great
divide

how often here
I wonder why
and question more than listen –
to answers come
sometimes while still
I sleep
beneath a road
of diamonds –
a path to evermore
glistens bright
with souls
I swore
to keep

the daylight
grows dimmer
with every october
tho the nightbirds sing louder
this spring
a reminder of counting
the miles to forever
broken old crosses –
lacey white wings

it seems but a moment
backward forgiving
to a place just the same –
starting again
hands held aloft
pleading with heaven
for one more tomorrow –
another amen

a quiet surrender
of midnight
and morning –
is washed from the sun
by a river of tears
recalled at the end
as a time ne’er forsaken –
when love glowed the path
of our way
back to here

friend

plant me
in the warmest spot
where sunlight spills to earth
face me north
and spread my branches
wide
sing that I might
recognize
the ancient rites of wind
that I might feel
the whispers
sweet glad tidings
of the night

snare me
with your ribbons
your cares of yesterday
keep me
as the place you come
to pray
in silence
let me witness
the musings of your soul –
dress me up
with stories
never told

share me
with rememberings
of once a noontide kiss
a late night tear
when no one knew
to listen
a moonlight dance
of sweet embrace
welcoming your sighs
as branches bent
to shield you
from the echoes
of goodbye

in the quiet still
none can own
few or less aware
oceans slide
beneath a silver foam
secrets sworn
for keeping –
lest my ancient vigil fail
and mountains crumble
silent to the shale
remembered yet
tho not so far
along the shore we came
– casting seeds
to blossom
here we are

in the swell
of a moment
forever one light
was the cool
morning mist
to my face
a lifetime
surrendered
as ages to stone
arms
like a breath
pulled around
here I am
held as forever
loosened to rhyme
so sweet now the dew
neath my feet
stars falling soft
as the last time
I wished
was the first
to remind me
of love
