i’ve danced
with a flame
drank verse from your mouth –
squandering moments
excuses to fate
were it not for the moon
words fell to skin
were it not our forever
to wait

25 Wednesday Aug 2021
in the blush
before twilight falls
on stars I know by name
tis there
a sigh unguarded
you remain
in light
before the sun arrives
to sit
atop my barn
in breezes come
a whisper
through the pines
tis there
amid the places –
I’ve decided
I can bear
souvenirs of all
I thought
to love
with breath
before dreams return
as shadows
shape the night –
as story
not yet told
you remain
. . .

arms reached around, carry me home, kentucky, lexington, love, permission to breathe, personal, seasons, sunset, time, truth

was a time
not so distant
it still takes my breath
– memory clear
as a Lexington sky
fell from my pocket
to meld with my skin
a moment when wish
reached the light
a fragile surrender
as ages before –
sweet was the day
another
of you
merged into wonder
I remember
your eyes
took hold of my heart
as you did
what you do
with your smile
holding knowledge
of places beyond
where every tomorrow
is witness to this
soul recognition
as a glance turned again
recalled
to the curve
of your lips
with nothing to trade
but lifetimes
to give
save the illusion
forever might be
cradled in arms
I remember them well
as dreams of Kentucky
awakened
in me

I’m certain
there’s a place
you can’t reach
inside my soul –
another thousand miles
beyond your touch
a story not yet traded
for somewhere we begin –
destiny or fate
not soon enough
I drew a map one Friday
and left before the sun
could gather up your dreams
to make them mine
before my heart remembered
all the ways
you fit me well
how much of me
is traces left behind
for every truth
some mystery –
to ease the days between
moments yet to ponder
why we came
for every start
where evermore has written
us more time –
seasons pass
doubts are rolled away

closer now to heaven than the stars, constellations, heart, life, love, smiles, song, soul memory

there is breath
when slumber takes me –
dreams beyond
this dream
constellations
riddled by the night
there are stars
where nothing glitters
but for memory
of blue –
another time
my wishes all for you
there are words
where none are needed
tracks upon my skin
poetry deciding me
to fate
shadows
where the window sits
open to the sun
touch to fill
the silence
before the morning
comes

13 Friday Aug 2021

violet bruise
of abiding truths
scars
as proof of life
rivers seeking refuge
with the sea
a fragile faith
redeemed by grace
heaven finds us here
wrapped in arms
we never thought
to leave
fates align
by love’s design
memories of home
are stars to fill
an ancient
destiny

days beyond our days, history, hope, life, love, nature, poetry, seasons, story, time, truth, witness

I will wait
til time is nothing
save for lies we left behind
and every road
a moment stretched between
the hesitant beginning
from a start we dared conceive
a flower resurrected
by the seed
I will wait
til rings are counted
by those denied our names
fashioned as a breath
into a sigh
I will wait
the fall of everything
every dream to living lost
as trees we planted
yesterday
push beyond the sky

beyond the night, birth, death, heaven, home, life, love, spirit, time, when I've forgotten you, without end

tis not for death
to ease this ache –
or steal from life this grace
no darkness could contain
the way love is
tis not for earth
a pound of stone –
a place to lay me down
cold beyond the memory
of your kiss
was not for solace
a soul returned –
come to bring me home
no heaven I remember
more than this
. . .
09 Monday Aug 2021

had i reason
to remember –
a map that held my name
roads I never traveled
feel the distance
just the same
when lights are low
and you are there
awaiting
my return
i hear your voice
sometimes –
feel your presence
with the dawn
sometimes i swear
you linger in the shadows
of my lawn
a smile
I’ve ne’er forgotten
my kiss still
on your lips
had i something
left to barter –
weathered poetry
writ down
the memory of somewhere
we remain
we are found
beyond the reach of never
close enough to now
waiting still the way
would bring you
home
. . .
