hearme

burdens sweat
an autumn night
beyond the shift
were time
erased
forgotten now
the way it felt
to soar
the sticky wet
of birthing
was willing us
to die
somewhere lost –
far above the day
we floated
on a whisper
wrapped in ancient feathers
remembering
a time we dared
to fly

bebebe

This morning, as I arrived for work and exited my car, I heard something – an almost silent droning – like a distant lawn mower, but closer.

It was sweetly familiar and before I found the source, I knew already what I would find. In the bushes to the front of my car, I saw a discarded coffee cup sitting upright in the mulch, obviously left behind by landscapers.

Inside the cup, a bumblebee.

The cup was probably about ten inches tall, and I knew instinctively what would happen if I did nothing. The bumblebee would die in the cup. He would swarm and swarm in circles, the excessive flutter of his tiny wings echoing off the cardboard, filling the summer air with the sound of jet engines on idle. He would never think to look up. It’s their nature – to search frantically in circles for a way out where none exists.

To be honest, I used to think it was the same way with tiny birds trapped in my garage, until quite by accident, I discovered a perfect little nest inside the plastic armor that protected the garage door opener.

But back to the bumblebee. I was immediately reminded that sometimes we are the same way.  We can wear ourselves out looking for something (a way out) that doesn’t exist and never think to reach beyond our habits, beyond our preconceived notion of how things should work. It may just be a different way of frying cornbread or it could be in the way we look at love. Perhaps our clearest vision exists beyond the reach of our understanding.

“The world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

reach beyond
this dusty view
into the heart
of all I am –
where mountains
stretch
to meet the clouds
where wings
unspoken soar

NOTE: For those who might be wondering, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep if I hadn’t knocked the cup over. Some things are worth the risk of being stung (ahhh, and there another story)…….

sweeter now
the ache forgiving
of moments past –
surround me here
an ancient quilt
of almost whispers –
words of living
folded near

page to page
as wish to wanting
lives beyond the ones
we live
songs forgotten
yield in singing
love resounds
in all we give

let with grace
these truths repeated
til prayer becomes
a place of rest
warmed by faith’s
eternal season
known by love –
as love
confessed

morningstar

When comes a time
there are no words –
no solace left to offer
tears have turned
to ashes on the lawn.

Life begins
anew to bloom –
with memory of winter
stars will shine
much brighter
come the dawn.

comfort

did we know
of ways uncertain –
as paths we cleared
between
of rivers wide
and trees against the sky
dew had fallen
somewhere –
into the baby grass
promise made of whispers
morning lies

of tears

show to the fallen
the strength into flying –
the broken
of bliss to reclaim
the place we were going
was yesterday here
we walked through a world
not the same

assurance
the word we dare
not remember –
take not of these for thy own
blind me believing
another hereafter
is written to pages
unknown

of all
and of none –
of every we are
together no different
the way
warned of the flame
held without love –
and left unprepared
for the pulling away

bless us
forgive us
grant us compassion
for more than the grieving
connecting us all
help us in holding –
the world for our reaching
for the one who sits broken
tomorrow shall fall

in the midst
of going crazy –
are words I strain to hear
sometimes I sit the night
and wait the want
to disappear

reminded of the places
still I keep
when day is gone
lest I forget when moments
came for me –
before the dawn

as one I knew
the same as love –
and times for days
the pages read –
when told of ways you walked
and miles to carry

pen and ink
were given life
a refuge from surrender
to shadows dark –
for there your light
was known

reminding me
of certain hope
much more than you
could utter –
whispers of belonging
touched by more
than rule and rhyme

word and still
forget me never
held between the lines –
no matter now
the distance passed –
as spirit folds around

revealing truth
we’ve yet to know –
in wandering to find
the paths we cleared
another day
are never left behind

for in my heart
and here – my soul –
as traces you remain
written by the trust
you swore
to give –

ageless
as were letters
carved into the bark –
are pages sent
to save me
tethered by your heart

keepers ~

when all I have
is poured into these tiny hands
and wealth I thought
I had before –
no more  than grains of sand
were washed upon these living shores
returned to me a pearl
where lies the answers
eternities
I wondered –

(now I know)

ஜ۩۞۩ஜ

Come as a robin
outside my window –
true as a rainbow to shine.
Soft as a moment
we made in your making –
echoes of love so divine.

ஜ۩۞۩ஜ

was yesterday
I passed –
along this same sweet path
and shared a distant dream
I could hardly speak
knew not when
the time would come
would make my dreaming real

never knew
of times before –
you dreamed of me

ஜ۩۞۩ஜ

Author’s Note ~ At various times, I have been asked to write
something for a special occassion (anniversary, eulogy, or birth of a child).
This is a collage (a few) of the later.
