words
it seems
are all I have –
a sigh you cannot hear
cool as ink
allowed to dry –
verses disappear
e’er such lines
seduction bear –
or meter steal my place
to claim the truth
from on my lips –
ivy robbed of lace
would I for this
my essence trade –
sweet desire to make you mine
fragile voice
a paper heart –
gives longing into
rhyme
. . .

before the bloom
became of dreams –
meadows without end
fraught with yellows
denim blue
and bark
before the sun
recalled in death
the sanctity of time –
was tempt to spin
hastened by the dark
who am I
can you forgive
what of me was less
a cotton robe
dirty soles
ruby reds to kiss
before the bloom
was sacrificed
perfume filled the air
pastures bathed in splendor –
with nothing to
compare

see me here
a golden shard
of sun
a purple flame
an iris
spent with dew
wears no shame
in the ribbon
where forever
leans soft
into the light –
crickets sigh
as winter pines
bow down
see me
in the evening
when every life
is stilled
a slash of feathers
carving –
a presence
none can fill
see me a savior
a whisper
from the fall –
saved for love
as smoke to cloud
breath
as none
at all
. . .

in a far away place
where story began –
at the mention
of somebody’s name
with the turn of a smile
the wink of an eye
marbles rolled
from my hands
a life started over
as break from the fall
where now
even now
they say grace –
a stifled amen was for
memories made
fates written over
by destiny’s plight
touch
where memory
ends

what soul
would I surrender
for another life to lose
– breath
when there is nothing left
what kiss
would I
refuse
what sorrows
meant to suffer –
for joy when others fail
a spark beyond
the dark –
beyond the veil
when asked
what would I give
what might I take if only one –
what dream of mine
will linger
will linger
when I’m gone
. . .

these
are the verses
speaking my life –
too many more
I dare not complain
of the ways
I may go without saying
a word
breath I might find
has forgotten my name
– the smell
of blackberries
left on the vine
. . .

was there a moment
I was spinning
wishes into plans
intent on misdirection
with hope
for nothing more
than a hand to hold –
a story not yet
made
