tangerine and wish

I dreamed of you
in the narrow field
of blossoms two to four
where lay we down
beneath a sky
of tangerine and wish
how warm your arms
within the cool
a hushed relief
awakened
as shivers pressed
around me
in the night

from the meadow
buffaloes appear
and graze on treetops
careless they float
in ether –
the leaves they nibble
are higher than my roof
and soon their spring feeding
will change to a fall
of crackling orange cover
on tin roofs
(they do not see me)
in their reality –
they are a spell
of my imagination
while I bask in fading sunlight
though one day
when we all dream
these clouds will become
as precious
as the people
who seal our hearts in love
or a moment –
pondering
the origins of shooting stars

dreamy

questions
leave me breathless
e’en when the silence falls
when years are passed
unwillingly to night –
tis there
the petals
once reserved
are opened by a sigh

essence unrelenting
as a psalm

remember me
as melody –
verses into one
tracing notes
lilac
shades of stone

breathe to me
as answers come
by names another wore
let me sit
while silently
they dream

. . .

Author’s Note: There are nights when I pull awake with a start, returning from another place – not so far. In the darkness, tears pool as I search frantically for a place to write.

tennessee rise

I fear for all
the weight of time
moments cleft the dawn
will then we rise
or pray alone
sunlight cast around
wherein the words
I love you
will days the altar break
or night
the veil be lifted –
my hungry soul
to take

. . .

nothing else ~

duck river

how is it now
the past is come
scattered by the wind
hardened crumbs
were once a croissant
dreams we shared
with ne’er a thought
of sunset o’er the break
darkness settled deep
into our bones
houses kept apart
from joy
bliss we dared believe
the dawn would press
warmth to sleepy eyes
assurance of remember me
lest nothing else make sense
heaven held to shadows –
dusted yesterdays

20170331_152004

I dreamed
beyond the edges
into a thicker deep
where buttercup and lilac
weaved a spot of shade
of one more
ever after
one more winter past
rocking chairs
wherein my laughter sits
reminders of another day
another almost
this
nights when not a one
were stars
we made

. . .

Author’s Note:  Many years back, my sister gifted my daddy with a concrete bunny for Father’s Day.  It sat in the grass next to an aging bird bath, with one exception.  When it was time for mowing, my daddy would lift the bunny to sit atop the bird bath so that it wouldn’t be accidentally forgotten, damaging both the bunny and the blade.  For almost two years now, it has sat atop the birdbath.  Though time has passed, we know the hands that put it there and have no desire to displace it.

How often do we need reminders of love?

hold

I painted my walls
a deep shade of night
floors –
the essence of sun
I slipped through the shadows
and ran through the weeds
out past the places
I remembered
undone

every dream
unpretending
to be as before –
times I swore not to sleep
anymore
lest truth
find me drifting
in realms beyond this
moored to forever
– cursed by a kiss

another one day
tis my fate to recall
how my tears
just beginning –
were destined to fall
as rain
to the flowers
bloomed in my stead –
as rivers of somewhere
roll ‘neath
my bed

this line
is one you crossed
that night
somewhere
as I lay sleeping
awoke within
the whisper of my name
ten thousand years
of someone told –
where once
I dreaming lived
speckled as the
moon
against your dark
poetry
to pull the heart
is life and death
surpassing
words and constellations
in silence
love remains

_ Middle Prong River and Dogwoods Great Smoky Mountains Tennessee ___

from birth –
the river
was bound to the trees
rocked neath their
branches
each night
sharing the story
tell me again
of weaving together
as stars into light
pattern reflected
in slivers of green
chasing a path
of song to the sea
warmed by the rocks
and swept by the tides
versing the winds
of shared destiny
of a night not so distant
– dreams just the same
as the taste
of forever –
tears without name

cedar
umbrellas
and a whisper at nine –
just as the pink
fades to grey
as dusk lays
her ancient white hands
to my dreams
secrets escape
to the dark
show me
to love you –
beg me recall
with words
I have none
but these lips
who speak within silence
of long –
long agos
of worlds we returned

remember
