sweet in recollection ~

in my dreams

how many nights
far too many
beyond my need for sleep
drifting in and out
of slumber –
miles to go
with none to keep

songs are playing
I can hear them –
near enough to wake the soul
verses sweet
in recollection
move my weary heart
to fold

ill regard
for lifetimes bartered –
on this crazy dream
of mine
how many sunsets
unremembered
will I find

will I find

remember me spring

there’s an field
beyond our seeking –
a place where we belong
the life we dreamed
no less
for living
another one

there’s a want
beyond the waking –
of winter wheat
and purple sword
where longing flows
the sweetest honey –
yet not
with words

there’s a silence
to all that matters
lest we grieve
for signs we missed
a truth we cannot speak of –
a promise
or a kiss

there’s a moment
I’ve heard tell –
blinding sunlight
of time displaced –
where love begins again
as always
from a memory
retraced

. . .

a place of just beyond ~

grace

forgiveness trades
her mourning dress
for one without the lace
cotton thick as ivy
wrapped around
borrowed from a sister –
knew how much
a heart could hold
but left before
the winter came so cold
beholding to another
take my hand
I am yours

dance me to a place
of just beyond
acknowledgement of every sin
surrender to the fates –
we wrote on these
same sands
so long ago

leaving

one begins another
a fall of ancient breaths
reminders
left in slumber
much too long
memory –
she’s fair enough
but keeps her secrets close
– cares only for the places
we belong

as disregard
for moments cleft –
how many yet to go
love remains
the best we have to give
permission for the coming back
to all we sought to find
– many dreams
with only one to live

dragons cry ~

breath (2)

it seems
as I’ve forgotten
the hurting side of me
bent in place
a damn disgrace
now a mystery
folded into shadow
and pressed against the boards
a whole lot more than memory
was trapped
beneath that door
so hurry now
the day is waning
and feathers chase the night
dragons cry
a liquid sky –
of whispers bearing light

(as tender fall
our wishes all around)

. . .

prayed aloud ~

day begins at night

keep the burn ablaze
make for me a place –
I will come to home
and breathe
of all I know
in this
and each beginning –
each returning to reveal
of ways we thought
were learning us
alone
keep the fire
say my name
into each misty morn
write my soul
to cedar –
to pages of your own
keep my place
as love becomes
a memory of futures cast
real as dreams
we prayed aloud –
into the sweet
unknown
