how short
these ties of earthly woe
how pure
the angels sing
where lies the truth
of all our days –
alive in everything
in those we knew
with those we loved –
how bless’ed they must be
to walk beyond
the tell of grace –
for all eternity
what stirs in hope
beyond the veil
when breath
is sealed away –
a name in sorrow
spoken –
yet worries not
the grave
became of each
ten thousand more
returned to claim the sun
remembered sweet
our passing –
of moments spent
as one
. . .
Author’s Note: Still….a word I love……I feel. I’ve written other pieces
and adorned this same name. It is a truth that cannot be argued, an
understanding, a promise, a way…….. Still.

chart your stars
across these hands
lean your faith into
each
and every
always –
come anew
where broken
there
the healing holds
a place worth
turning home
– a scar I love
remains of all
I’ve known
gather me
to memory –
of love
as best I keep
unthwarted by
decisions
settled deep
fold to dreams
the lives between
the first kiss
and the last
longing –
all I carry
of the past
spare your fate
for weakness –
as strength
before the flight
trusting yet the waking –
dawn to catch
the night

tender still
these jagged reds –
fault lines bleeding through
have healed
and been reopened
time again
with want for more
than promises
need for recompense
what circumstance remains
to hold me here
what almost
fell to nothing
– a thread of saving grace
heads are bowed
hands
are folded so
gathered unto whispers
all that might have been
were letting go
a choice
to disappear

o tender heart
what distance tears
the keeper
from the seeking
what words
were never heard
(I hear them still)
tender as
ten thousand
tiny wings above
the timbers –
(call me home)
surrendered
as I will
o longing (stay)
within this breast
of all I’ve not forsaken
to know you then
– the path begins
anew
where and why
the truth
(is never gone
from us forever)
returning me
across the night
to you

when emptied
let me understand
tis there
my fullness lies
the whole of all creation
– but a sigh
echoed into
weariness
more and more –
til less
the bowl is waiting
silent
on the shelf
holding heart
with memories
where overflowing
spent
to change the ways –
the river
came and went
to seek
beyond the seeing
how dear
this emptiness
– will softer hands
confine my
thankfulness
for what shall be
another sure –
tis something more
divine
than what was left
of nothing –
remains for us
to find

last night
I dreamed
(my waking one) –
a house
my ways becoming
and split three times
the porch
into the sun
the steps were broken
(all my paths
were worn)
held me there
one winter –
buried me
beneath
an ancient bough
– a stretch
of cedar wings
a longing
(not so much) apart
recalls another me
miles without a story
(coming true)
blossoms from a place
where once
I scattered
memories

bowed against
a vow unspoken
hands are holding
(now I know)
where the path
was meant
to wander
sweet and golden
sure to home
somewhere
yet
they seek
permission –
tho granted
not for one (as I)
lives are weaved
of blissful
sorrow
borrowed
threads –
each sweet goodbye
who shall
want
for this reflection
breath to wait
the fading light
souls we saved
ten thousand (mattered)
are rushed
by faith
into the night
. . .

were you always
a face in the crowd
someday – a destiny true
a voice on the wind
reminds me again
the place
(I remember)
as you
was our moment
no more than a dream
a kiss at the gate —
(letting go)
we lingered that day
as time slipped away
to truths
we were destined
to know
was our purpose
a blessing (to touch)
faded – a photograph now
of strained black and white
conceded to light –
far more than this world
would allow
was your whisper
the song I would hear —
an echo of longing
out loud
is yesterday gone
(or still holding on)
awaiting
your face –
in a crowd
