plant me
in the warmest spot
where sunlight spills to earth
face me north
and spread my branches
wide
sing that I might
recognize
the ancient rites of wind
that I might feel
the whispers
sweet glad tidings
of the night
snare me
with your ribbons
your cares of yesterday
keep me
as the place you come
to pray
in silence
let me witness
the musings of your soul –
dress me up
with stories
never told
share me
with rememberings
of once a noontide kiss
a late night tear
when no one knew
to listen
a moonlight dance
of sweet embrace
welcoming your sighs
as branches bent
to shield you
from the echoes
of goodbye

6:13 AM
the evening hums
with the wisdom of age
lines before lines
rubbed away
case in point being
the ways that we loved
when wishes
yet sparkled
a half dusted sky
with promise of someday
another to find
resolved every kiss –
permission divine
every vow
a moment was made
unconfessed
as a dream became
somewhere
we loved before this

spring believed
before I did –
and blossomed with relief
for times I cursed
the blight of winter
snow
heaven knew
of faith reserved
to catch the falling leaves
where blooms your love
in every place
I go

earth, heaven, home, just beyond the firelight, life, love, nature, reminders, sacred intimacy, seeing in the dark, sometimes, still, the divine in all of us, time, truth

in a little while
time will die
and all that was
remembered still
as the sweetest song
on a perfect night
when time remained
to steal us
in a little while
breath will come
as a mighty wind
upon the plains
that was the earth
that is our bones
~ into a life
of keeping
in a little while
love will wake
beyond this dream of living
and time will want
for another way
to hear our song
the same
in a little while
silence will fall
to clear the heart
of whispers
where names and places
rest unclaimed
~ as heaven
above the cedars

he spoke
of distant mornings
(a light she strained to see)
she wrote
of lowly purpose
filled with love
(and mystery)
he listened
as she listened
they talked
(and talked some more)
of the road
they passed together
another way
(sometime) before
he spoke
of ancient winters
(a field where brothers fell)
she spoke
in careful whispers
of a loss
she grieved (as well)
he cried
and she was tender
(in the catching of each tear)
she reached
to find him (waiting)
(with want
to have her) near
he stayed
(beyond the leaving)
lest she ever think
him gone
as she woke
beyond the darkness
a star
(for wishing on)

I wonder
in another life ~
was I an eastern wind
or a whisper
come to rest
upon your bed
was I a night
like all the rest ~
starlight
in my hair
a cloak of make believe
and endless wish
was I a song
o falala ~
something worth
the dance
sung beneath the covers
one morning
chill of May
do you remember now
the way I warmed
to places in between
forever
til forever
lest I stay ~
like I was all
you needed
a whisper in the night ~
starlight and
a note beside
your bed

I dreamed of you
in the narrow field
of blossoms two to four
where lay we down
beneath a sky
of tangerine and wish
how warm your arms
within the cool
a hushed relief
awakened
as shivers pressed
around me
in the night

lifetimes chiseled
a door between pines
was here
a heaven was left me
one time
closing my eyes
to evergreen dreams
washing my soul
in wonder
it seems
you remind me
of home
a place I belong
paths often tread
past beginning
words I have lost
to the wearing
of days
yet here
in the woods
they remain
