when the wolf
is come
for answers
growling at my door
returned to find
his favored bowl is clean
i shall whisper
to his madness
make sense of every need
i shall sing
into the sorrow
of his want
when come for me

i remember well
the way it felt
returning back to home
to find the weeds
grown up
the cupboards bare
i remember tears
can taste them now
how sweet their recompense
for losses
far too many
to repair

were a lifetime
one more sunrise
a sparrow
taking flight
a word to rhyme with missing
arms to fit just right

another stay
the night for breakfast
if they worry
I won’t care
for a lifetime
one more sunrise –
waiting there

in dreams
where dreams are tarried
fragile breath
of candle light
as promise made –
a sparrow
taking flight

rivers
where tears began
carried from the fall
fearless as a mountain –
longing
for the sea
resurrected moments
wherever fates are stored –
was here I found
the life you left
for me

it’s not the same
this missing
in places last you loved
a heart where only echoes
now remain
as proof of distant summers
a kiss
for waiting on –
I swear sometimes
all I know
is rain

to carry
never mine to touch
the distance to forever
from a moment
neath the oaks –

a perfect afternoon
for falling

was not for me
to squander
your name upon my lips –
the taste
of sunday morning
on my tongue

was never meant
for whispers –
search the night for me
come before
the frost is
melt away

what we knew
was left for knowing
in every moment
we begin

when passions
are rendered
and the last starling sailed –
when all I recall
of the summer
we loved –
is the flush of your skin
melded with mine
a view of the sky
through your eyes

as gifted this poet
moments so clear –
words without hope
to describe
the way your smile lingered
as coffee was poured
night making sense
of the day

when time
is negated
for sake of my heart
the curve of the moon
as he sleeps
when all i have left
of your voice
in the dark –
is passed as a wing
through the trees

who I was

from places
long imagined

aloud
in passing –
lest your fingers
be tempted by the red
to begin
an undertaking –
an explorer
undecided where to land
how many streams
for crossing
might delay
your sweet return
to a place
you had forgotten
how to be
