stilled
within a silence
I’d forgotten how it felt –
strained against another
left unsaid
taken
by forever dreams
beyond my lover tears
fated list I made
for why I was
stayed behind –
kept inside
sitting with my sadness
baking bread
and singing to the night
circles drawn
to restlessness –
let me be the longer
folded into joy
the storms betrayed
echoes of a sorrow
cross the darkest sea –
safe within
the drowning –
reminders now to swim

had I known
of another –
of times before this
where life was
revealed in shadows
of bliss
and spread into sorrows
one tear could divide
– as oceans were split
our fate to decide
what of this
we were keeping –
what of joy
shall we pay –
shall sleep in the moss
o’er the places
we lay
what blossom
is seeded –
by the ache of despair
shall burst
as a garden –
to fields unaware
of moments we came
or the ways
we once found –
how long was the journey
I wonder
sunrise
the same as it was
just before –
when last I lay down
this journey
to prove –
remembering now
to another
sometime –
as the road I was taken
returns me
anew

come the path
forgotten me –
as rivers carry stones
with memory of an ancient
water’s rise
in streams beneath
above the past
sentiment of standing
still as death
before the autumn lies
crush to sands
this still old self –
lost from all that was
wherever now the willow
does confess
with rings beneath
and tales untold –
breezes to recall
moments pressed into
her wilderness

of loss
the greatest measure
an empty sugar bowl
reminds me of a past
not really gone
of jackets
in the closet –
clothes I’ll never wear
weightless I’ve surrendered
to their style
crowded little cobwebs
hushed where
nothing did
tired whites –
are starched with getting on
of sorrow
kept unnoticed
by the world of passersby
flowers bloom
to colors
not yet grey
breezes lift me skyward
from paths of yesterday
someone speaks
but I don’t hear
a thing

the whispers
are failing
the long summer grass
as legions are marched
to the ground –
sung to the dragons
as twilight to burn
webs were just reaching beyond
this fluid embrace
of long nights alone
and blankets pulled over
a snowy white
shroud –
ribboned cocoon
of silken burlesque
is matched
by a cape of the very
same shade
and spun into dreams
never knew we were here
and kept as a memory
of winter
and lace

in the shallows
of existence
the wildest blossom dreams
of souls returned
as witness to this day
a virgin amaryllis –
an Easter white bouquet
reminders of a stone
once rolled away
worry not for death
within a garden
strewn with grace
forgiven now the depths
of our demise
what blessings
purge the sinful heart –
of debt already paid
– were not the fall
o’ershadowed
by the rise

was a time
before illusion –
a time to wonder why
– tho maybe
I imagined
every whispered
lullaby
a bliss –
the same as breathing –
of the same sweet air as I
is held
within the silence
– within the penance
of a sigh
tis all the same
I see that now –
but what of dreams will know
when death is come
my hand to still –
was faith
for loving so
this tepid trust
these lukewarm tears –
might distance
mine erase
as echoes of forever
draw me nearer
to this place
where once I knew
and once I lived –
a house just down the hill
is tortured
by the turning back
– a lifetime
waiting still
what prophet gleans
the past resolved
as moments we allow
would suffer time
as wondering –
where love remains
somehow
for one more time
restored to touch –
one kiss when life is passed
one heaven here –
I knew it well –
shall grieve my soul
at last

it seems of time
I have no say
of where and when
the leaving
of souls held dear
I wish I’d held
a moment more
to grieve
these gifts of life –
of laughter merged
to make of me
a locket –
of grapes
the same as winter wheat
frosted by the wind
where am I
and how to say
of all the things worth keeping
love survives
the harshest storms –
blossoms yet
as seed
down the years
as one made more –
by touch with me
to tarry –
let me love
or let me sleep
beyond this futile dream
carry me
e’er splinters press
a crush of silver locust –
born to curse
the coming back
– the stinging of the blade
