bend these tired graces
to the measure
of your hand
the lengths to go –
miles before your dream
stay
where holy keeps you
wrapped in paper clouds
sealed within the words
I love you said

into the shifting silence
as chill
beneath the pines
light beyond the crest
where woods erase
the present
from the always –
the almost from the dead
I lay my head
and listen you
again

the soul of soul
I’ve been thinking about this for a day or two….perhaps allowing a bit more time for thoughts to make words.

Several ladies in my office were talking earlier this week about Valentine’s Day, that it is also known as Single Appreciation Day. One wasn’t familiar with the term, and the other was explaining it as a period of celebration for those without Valentines.

A few thoughts came to mind. First, I couldn’t believe they would tell me without expecting some kind of response.

Who needs a valentine to love?  ❤

But beyond that – more. Do we really need a day? Really?  Shouldn’t we be reminded of love, and to be loving every day? So many of our holidays are with the same purpose, to remind us of things we should know, that we should celebrate every day. Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Veterans Day… How short is our memory that we would need to be reminded, or that we would need an excuse to show love?

And more….. What proof do we need to know we’re loved? Do we need a box of chocolates to know we matter to someone? I tend to make things way to simple, but there is no one that I love that would ever pass a single night without knowing I love them. Not believing I do – knowing I do. The same with me – I know I am loved. I don’t need proof. Love does that. If we allow it, it changes everything. And I’m not talking about the ‘burn-your-house down’ passion. I’m talking about the embers that remain to warm us throughout our years – on long nights – on cold nights. Embers don’t need words to be.

I’ve seen a post or two lately on this (thank you for the reminder, Jane). Love (true love) simply is. It doesn’t need a place or a time (or a name) to be. Do we need the manifestation to convince us? Ahhh, WE are the manifestation. We are the love. Let us sit softly against the glowing embers and remember (always) that we are loved.

❤
nights
have passed
tho none the same
as once
you spoke my name
embers glow
against me
in the dark
reminders
e’er I need to know
of all I understand
silence bends
in mercy
to the flame

silent words

I’ve worn
my inside out –
bones upon the floor
let my soul to dry
against the sun
grieved for understanding
told with lies
my truth
a purpose weaved
of patterns
come undone

when making
into story –
was more than I could say
more than I could tell
at any cost
were letting go
and letting in –
pages kept with tears
lives I’ve lived
tho ne’er a one
was lost

o truth –
I’m a secret
you can’t understand
a feeling
untethered
as lines to your hand
I’m a place
for returning
again
(and again)
with wanting for reason
divine

I’m a storm
unrelenting
a fire so cold –
a fault to the blessing
relinquished by soul
where the stitches
are hid –
another one sewn
(a moment)
made sweeter
by time

spoke by the fathers
a hand-me-down tale
of places recalled us to dream
a sky without edges
reaching around
as ease to the breaking
unseen

a light
between oceans
ferries the soul –
a journey much further than this
remains with the seeker
long past the dawn
– awakened within
the abyss

will ever this
the cold reveal –
a plan
for early spring
buds are sleeping
safely
by the gate
dreams have been
forsaken
to seasons
come and gone –
morning swears
allegiances
to fate

to years behind
steps unknown –
for all I have another
remembered now
in silent lullabies
as echoes falling
tender –
curses none can hear
timbers weep
with every sweet
goodbye

sweet the skin
forever stained –
with hint of evergreen
where want
became of ivy
mystified
a patch of purple clover
the lull of widow’s moss
is pulled into
the places
we are loved

twilight burns
above the boughs –
whispers roost
between
a shake of falling wishes
feathers wake
in memorizing
lives before –
these lessons to reveal
clouds apart
with all night long
to climb

. . .

almost still ~

how soft
to lay
the blossoms down –
as anchors
for the weed
a carpet spread
beyond the dusty wood
sings to me of
summer –
another day as this
we shared a breath
in silence
and wondered if
we should

of all
we’ve known
how many there
remember us by name
an essence
swirling hue
of cedar smoke
gathered into leaving
holds us here
sometimes –
a universe for every
secret spoke

tell me
of another –
of ancient will removed
dreams are curled
against the window pane
where yesterday
the thistle
sprouted from our words
reached to catch
a taste
of summer rain

for more than this
I faint would ask –
or tary on my knees
reminded not of pleadings past –
this blessing to appease

for more than sin
my honor paid –
more than stones to cast
as feathers
born of ancient flight
are given rise
at last

on western winds
a southern charm
is left our truth to tell
were nights
we lost to sleeping
the dreamer to dispel

broken boughs
left scattered bout –
forgotten where and when
the soul was saved
to coming back
with choice to break
again

. . .

might I go
the way of winters –
lest you speak
of me sometimes
as fault
to resurrect
the lonely chill

was known
before our knowing
wrapped us close
around
within the night
ten thousand lights
burned out

might I stay
beyond the leaving
in colors
you know best –
autumn red
and souvenirs
of wing

blossoms burst
as song to flame –
with melody
of one
time was lost
when we as light
became

a moment
willed to whispers
e’en now
to silence cling
as moonlight
pressed –
into the proof
of love
