fringes

living sits the morning long
on fringes of the night
swelled against the aging
silver frawns
how it is I noticed
how it is I stayed
here as your
imaginary sun

truth becomes
the slightest breeze
ushered through the gate
whispers now
of summers
come and gone
reminding me
of almost then
I thought the leaving lost
the way returning here
to not yet known

yellow takes the place
of blue –
purple grieves
the green
a path into the wordless
world beyond
feels the same as some I’ve dreamed
once we moved the same
fit against the going
becoming light
as one

forallIknow

beauty sleeps
in borrowed clothes
crumpled in the corner
stirs awake as solace
passes by

the window
always open
stretches cross the dark
as silence
none can hear
but butterflies

wrestled
from the shadows
tempted not by fate
lest longing leave the door
of dreams released

pressed the heart
for answers –
tho who is left to know
of destinies –
where beauty wakes
asleep

someoneIusedtobe

neath the clutter
of september
the roof is hanging on
weathered there as passion to exhume
soft a bed of feathers
wilts within the storm –
where watches now
the blue become
the moon

pardoned
every reason
for where and when we were –
easing into everything
we fade
passions wear to wanting
for years beyond the ache
how we were
before this mess
we made

lashes
blink a sure escape
sorrows without shame
locks were never meant to keep the door
crouched against the memory
of almost all we had
maybe I’ll remember
something more

than ashes
in my coffee –
longing come and gone
dishes without match
to all we said
leaving gets forsaken
by the want to stick
around –
sheets no longer fitted
to the bed

pressing

I’ve found my joy
in pieces –
once again
the same as I
as years and miles
– eternities begun
as silent prose
so rarely known
fit with words and painted
sherbet melon skies
around the sun

were poets
but a name
we gave
to those with dare
for dreaming –
dragonflies
and there I pass alone
swept in counted linen
falling to and fro
crooked boards
with want
to plead
my soul

wonder
banks the tallest pine
with whispers
of regret
prophets warn
of moments got away
before the wake
of just how much
we’d give to come again
night birds chasing
memory
into day

. . .

canecreekbridge

curses
catch the sheets on fire
when chance
you swore to leave
broken
every plate I own
decided not to grieve

for the busted chair
the heavy heart –
weeds to crowd my soul
a bridge in need
of mending –
morning whispers
cold

as winter warned
the flame to die –
with promises of spring
ashes silt the corners
reminders –
every thing

of yesterdays
returned anew –
the choice made long ago
flowers bloom
in shades of smoke
– for reasons
I don’t know

. . .

Author’s Note:  I’ve been carrying this
picture around for almost three
years…..waiting for words
to wake me.

returningme
remembered me
to words remiss
and how it felt to speak
what bittersweet
reminders
haunt the tongue
echoes take forever
to find us here again –
whatever now we will
– in silence
comes

remember this
as I became –
the answer to a prayer
made one day
a lifetime more ago
remember me
forsaking all
you thought I might have been
would find you here
remembering
a time I loved you
so

essenceme

strange the way
forever feels
as morning warns us home –
before the night
(is wrestled)
from the bed
blooms are falling
(lazy)
reminders just the same
are fit inside a suitcase
(something someone said)

presence found
in golden pools –
perfume (once you loved)
is mine to keep –
these souvenirs (of time)
brush against my longing
when passed me
in the dark

were e’er there proof
(I knew) of one
divine

stories spilled
in silence –
as messages of light
reveal the ways
as years (we fall) between
whispers
(o I love you)
remain with me
tonight –
swept beyond my sleeping
(where you) dream

. . .

remembered to me ~

comeback

hold my soul
as one of longing
forgiven more than grace
divine –

will trust the darkness
fold you sweetly
into the heart
you hold of mine

take my hands
to know my sorrows –
martyred verse
unclaimed by word
one more time
will faith be tested
for prayers to listen
undisturbedsweettom

hold my heart
beneath the covers
warm to every place I know
there you are
begin –
just ending –
silence falls as rain
to snow

. . .

needs to tend ~

morningofbeginnings

from the first
a whisper came –
beheld me to november
to wishes
(you remember)
touch divine
a barefoot side of heaven –
as once I thought you knew
a dusted floor
where sunlight split
the pines

a cedar box
of rusted fame
with ne’er a truth to carry
the key is gone –
but for the lock I saved
china plates
will nothing match
these shades of sarsaparilla
blessings of
another time –
forgave

crooked boards
and needs to tend –
tho who will understand
the ways I came
to walk these fields alone
tempted into trouble
morning warms the same
the night so still –
that all the stars have gone

numbers
and night birds
roosting in willows
crickets are crooning –
just past the light
echoes of where I was
one time too often
as lowly came home
another someday to bed
and spread to my quilt
hands to remember
touch not so young
I betrayed
kisses the first
will I know – will I ever
how many the last
will become
