e’er i decide
some solace to take
in a memory
ten thousand lives old
in the crush
of winters
pressed to my heat
a fire burning
still
where my heart
used to be

all I really know, in this now, life, love, redemption, surrender, trust, truth

had i more of verse
than consequence
an offer
much refined
more than just
one kiss
another me
was waiting
recognition –
in the shadow
of a smile
a lifetime resurrected
by will
of destinies
had i more to gift
– of everything
these arms could ever hold
fortunes
spent before
you came
for me
. . .

take me back
the way we came –
so I might see the sun
left to live
in stories
dreams
of deepest elm
so I might reach
for heaven –
the memory
of lace
folded into dust
another morning
come
take me back
if you can find
the road that was
remains
pressed against
the mountains –
caverns
without name
take me back
remember me
into the place
where light was born
fashion me a star
above the trees

let me be
let me write
of worlds not yet
discovered –
light where none exists
but for your eyes
let me see
eternity
is not so much
to barter
time is an illusion
let me wake
within the hush
of presence
moonlight haunting skin
let me fall
let me breathe
of worlds
where I am
found
. . .

how do i get home
to the place
where we began
the lines are down
and i can’t see
the stars
was yesterday
we journeyed
not so far
along this path
e’en now the blooms
are breaking
for memories we traded
another mile
maybe three or four
til i am in your arms
i swear the moon
has come
to light my way

when passions
are rendered
and the last starling sailed –
when all I recall
of the summer
we loved –
is the flush of your skin
melded with mine
a view of the sky
through your eyes
as gifted this poet
moments so clear –
words without hope
to describe
the way your smile lingered
as coffee was poured
night making sense
of the day
when time
is negated
for sake of my heart
the curve of the moon
as he sleeps
when all i have left
of your voice
in the dark –
is passed as a wing
through the trees
. . .

all I know, allowing, another life, in no time at all, love, truth
when breath is caught
in telling
and the house we knew
is gone
when fate declares
our every dream
come true
as strangers walk
the paths we loved
to feel the same
sweet sun –
will not yet be
the moment
when I’ve forgotten
you
. . .

all I really know, comprehension, forever this, life, love, now, time, truth, understanding

what benefit
is destiny
when all we do is pine
for another life –
another breath
some other choice
divine
a moment come
when words are met –
by a heart that fits
us so
is worth the price
for wanting –
what only lovers
know
there is no time
beyond today –
no break
beyond the trees
where life is lived
apart from here –
as truth resolved
to be

were love the same
as yesterday –
took you by surprise
a sideways glance
the consequence
of light
had not your heart been
propped against
the memory of dust
your lips with ache
for all I had
to say
a song
that has not played
but in your arms –
I remember well
the swell
of violins

i shall pray
for love to take me
as evening
pulls around –
cuddled me in green
a bit of star
i shall want
that you would wait
until my will
is turned to stone
a plea for grace
to fill this place
you left me
once
alone
i shall rage for truth
when none becomes
the way i knew
of you
i shall want of this –
another day
when all my days
are through
