however long
forever
saved itself for thee
to learn again
the depths
where love was fated
come for me
and i for you
i for this
when years were long
and cold
i dreamed beyond
the reach of dreams –
beyond the weight
of woe
lest prayers revive
the wonder
of more than once
enough
time is resurrected
by a promise
left to love
. . .

evening waits
in shadows
where once the orchard stood
i close my eyes
and granny calls
my name
another place
of just beyond
i’ll get there when i can
seems smaller now
weeds beneath
the boards
save me back
take me here –
wherever lives ten thousand
i’ve forgotten now
how i knew their ways
press your words
against my words –
your sigh
a mystery
breathe me home –
a map
of memories
. . .
Author’s Note: Sometimes I linger over words for no reason, so when I’m done (close enough), I read them aloud. If my hand finds my heart in the process, I know I’ve chosen well the words that can’t be said.

solve me now
this mystery
of where and why
you came
when years have passed
– no one speaks
my name
but out beyond
the cedars
far beyond the dark
twilight rains
and i become
your touch
something more
than everything
for something more
i prayed
would find my wanting
met –
some other day
while getting on
getting older
lest i grieve
a moment more
to learn the ways
you came for me –
to understand
how far
. . .

i am only
almost empty
save for these
few words to rhyme
gave of will
to make things better
held my tongue
walked the line
but for this
our wants made easy
hands to fit –
love to know
how it was
the road remembered
the ways we came
not far
to go
. . .

had i more than this
to give
more than my last word
a sigh no longer
waiting
every dream to wake
had i something
left of everything
take
then take some more
steal my breath
claim this heart
had never beat
before
had i reason
to surrender –
fear to lay aside
miles i may have walked
to find you home
forget them all
til comes the day
i shall rise again
renewed in love
i saved to
give you more
. . .

by home another way, destiny, home, life, love, once upon a fairytale, one day, remembered, time

started a day
not so strained
not so far
from how many others
one day
just the one
but to remember
it now
how the clouds seemed so close
heaven as near
were your eyes
a sweet
recognition
of a place never left
home just the same
as your heart –
everything
a whisper shared
by the pines
(a song
i’d forgotten to sing)
a voice recalled
from a far distant place
was you –
i awaited
to dream
