Spring did arrive with April’s feathered touch
in yellow blossoms much too rich for Fall –
but waited again the burnt Summer sun,
and grieved not a moment for Winter’s pall.

In melodies written on Sparrow’s wing,
the deep blue umbrella held fast the rain –
so long that time had ceased to remember
the cool December from whence longing came.

What season left behind is ours to keep
another page of eternity sweet –
would linger still in our heart evermore,
as snowflakes melted the first Summer heat.

Were yesterday’s promise so far away –
but want for remembrance of Winter today.

softly

Yesterday, on my drive home from work, I called to check in with one of my students. I had created a resume for him; and he had recently graduated from the program with a mandate to find employment within three weeks.

He had good news to share in that he had found a job. He was excited as it was the first in a long time (as he put it, ‘this side of clean). I commented that I knew he would make it past the fear of each day. He then said something that I pondered most of the night. He said that most had stopped believing him. At a loss for what to say (imagine that), I replied ‘maybe they just need some time to adjust to the new you’. He laughed, and said, “I think it’s because you see with God’s eyes.”

I wasn’t sure what to do with such a compliment except be grateful (and blush, tho he couldn’t see it). As I sometimes do when at a loss, I laughed, “I think His eyes are grey”.

It was a good talk, but it left me thinking long past my drive home.

While I’d love to think that I always see with God’s eyes, the reality is I don’t. But it’s something I aspire to. Surely we should all aspire to see beyond our own insecurities, failures, and fears; beyond our own ego into the worth of everything. Beneath every tear, every scar, there is a story. There is value.

I pray that I find myself more and more seeing with God’s eyes. And when the story comes (and it will), I pray that I will listen with His ears and remember with His heart.

before the day
another night –
is passed to consequence
stars are led
in silence round
the sun

leaves are turned
as blossoms fair
look beyond the path
to search the sky
for angels
come undone

When comes a time
there are no words –
no solace left to offer
tears have turned
to ashes on the lawn.

Life begins
anew to bloom –
with memory of winter
stars will shine
much brighter
come the dawn.

homenow

sweet the skin
forever stained –
with hint of evergreen
where want
became of ivy
mystified
a patch of purple clover
the lull of widow’s moss
is pulled into
the places
we are loved

twilight burns
above the boughs –
whispers roost
between
a shake of falling wishes
feathers wake
in memorizing
lives before –
these lessons to reveal
clouds apart
with all night long
to climb

render
with mercy
if ever you tell
or cleave from wishes
these stars
fell to my eyes
a midnight in march
filling the night
wherever you are

might yet our story
be saved
to your soul
a passing of light on the way
a whisper of longing
kept by the wind
shall meet
with remembrance
someday

bravelittleme

dare I now
to close my eyes –
illusions of the same
somewhere
there
a whisper
of my name

falls around
as mystery
I never could concede
to know the ways
to home –
and back to me

hands to reach
a kiss just so
who am I to tell –
the taking from the leaving
when both
have fit me
well

a sky this blue
another gave
one day –
from all the rest
to know of truth
I carried –
a blessing
unconfessed

eases now
as once I knew
the touch
of letting go –
hands were reaching
softly –
eyes were open
closed

sweetlynow

shall I wait
or shall I slumber –
taking all
of time
I know
into worlds
beyond I wander –
into life
beyond I go

kept apart
and sewn together
by a moment
so divine
stitched of want –
as darkness gathered
to warm a heart
the same
as mine

who am I
what name is given
was a girl
a woman now –
was a place
beyond my knowing
come again
for me
somehow

pages bent
the years by passing
ribbon sky
to mark the way –
paths are worn together
waiting
– love we kept
to give away

awaken
o familiar
lamp within
the dark
beloved as a wish
I made
upon
some ancient light
another night
wherein my dreams
are found
remembers me

fragile falls
the eager first
to raise our hopes again
to fill the empty lines
ahead with verse
– a rhyme
tho none would notice
the way
I spoke your name
while tender
curved a hand
against my heart

souvenirs
are taken in
folded to the crease
memorized
as season –
year by year
til only one remembers
well enough
the story goes
of ways
the words were whispered
– now again

in the silent song
of morning light
truths are laid together
– a softer line
than e’er a rhyme
could touch

awake

spools
and pearls
aging satin –
a pillow here
to lay your head
saved for me
the last time
looking
moments passed
with miles
ahead

tho twice the turn
of intuition
glances
but a whisper freed
knew not
why
my heart was broken
– why for you
my only need

gathered soft
for flight
or failure –
for wonders far beyond
this place
questionning
betrayed to answer
– how it was
I knew
your ways

tender now
the promise wearies
to stay
when there was more
to know
to keep of joys
which none could carry
– to rush beyond
the wanting
so
