how long
and for a while
it seems I might remember
these paths –
though so familiar
are disguised
as something more
a moment rare –
a time I thought we knew
the way was bright
and we
becoming one
journeyed in the sunlight
across on boards
of clay
felt the shift of worlds
beneath us
closed our eyes
swaying
leaning into love
recalling once again
the feel
of home

o tender heart
denied a fall
rapturous unknowing
paper whites
verses to the blind
memory untarnished
by the early ebb and flow
the call of
mourning doves
against the night

a moment (forever) ~

a moment
(forever)
was the last time
(the first)
looking thru eyes
the same (still)
as mine
seeing me clearer
than any
(save one)
silence
(longing) to fill
hands falling
tenderly
glistening
raindrops
reasons and seasons
for times
(we remain)
understood
as a sigh on our lips
(amen)
remember
(forever was) once
the echo of bliss
released
to my heart
ashes
(rivers)
nights (in the kitchen)
scattering whispers
let us begin
the leaving (worn bare
by our living)
all is forgiven
time grieves (for none)
the trust that was love
(a moment)
our all

for times
I never took the time
days I let
get by
nights I slept
beyond the reach
of dreams
love I held
a moment long
candles blossom bright
paper plates
as graces
have become
a hundred years
from getting back
eighteen more
than then
pages bent
against me in the back
roads I know
from walking home
slower
than the sun

seasons not
the heavier
for counting

is the measure of grace
a verse without rhyme
a solitude born
of the staying

a path I remembered
would bring me to here
held by a breath
to your memory

a life before this
was love unaware
the weaving of dreams
into moments
one day

we sat in the still
at the edge of goodbye
sharing the truth
of how the stars shine
and where the wind goes
taking pieces of us

unafraid of the keeping
allowing for love
as heartbeats
aligned
to the passing of days

as birth unto light
a heaven intended
to look for us here
in the fold
of always –

a reason
we came
released in the letting –
as verse without
rhyme

from here

how vast the realms
of I confess
a portion of my soul
was scattered
silver seeds
among the stars
wished upon by dreamers
awakened by the night
a canopy of stories –
with thread
the same as mars
smoke that stills
the canyons
before a raging storm
is captured to
the mirror I am holding
in my arms
eyes in shades
of abalone
words I know by heart
are whispered
by the sailor –
carried by the sea
backwards to a moment
unremembered
overheard by sparrows
sharing secrets
with the dark

in the near
that is an empty page
I always find you there
resting as a word
I meant to find
smiles
I can’t help keeping
as darkness pulls around
tis you I seek
between each
fragile line

stay
that I might
give to you my story –
a page or two
as payment for a kiss
how long til
you’ve discovered
breathing born of rhyme
will beyond
these places we exist
a poem
oft repeated
just before the darkness stirs
in reverie
this wonder to reclaim
words –
where none are needed
linger yet
upon my lips –
sweetened by the memory
of your name

will
and I wonder
to places unknown
forgotten the weeds –
my way back to home
a secret
unspoken
by lovers and thieves
echoed by crickets
knees
touching knees
a hymnal
of feathers
as light through the pines
souvenirs left by
the rain
where was I going
who waits the dawn
with promise
of heaven
to love me
again

Author’s Note: I love the woods and I love the shore. A couple of years back, while sitting on my porch, I closed my eyes and raised my face to the sun. But the breeze, he told me something more. In that moment, I noticed the song that is the fluttering of leaves. It is the same as the waves on the shore. I wonder who knew it first, but wonder not at the love that allowed them to share it.

how tender
these blessings of
sapphire and pearl
oceans singing
of leaves

for every same
another was
unlike of all I’ve known
kept with me
a map of ancient roads
made of places
some have seen
few would recognize
whispered soft
the name of every star
spinning time
as ringlets
round your finger –
let me fall
into the place
where once you were
and I the proof
of home
