here

when emptied
let me understand
tis there
my fullness lies
the whole of all creation
– but a sigh

echoed into
weariness
more and more –
til less
the bowl is waiting
silent
on the shelf

holding heart
with memories
where overflowing
spent
to change the ways –
the river
came and went

to seek
beyond the seeing
how dear
this emptiness
– will softer hands
confine my
thankfulness

for what shall be
another sure –
tis something more
divine
than what was left
of nothing –
remains for us
to find

. . .

taste of silk ~

crossed I once
an empty field
before the evening
blue
– worried not
for where the path
might lead

would restless
bring me home to find another
captive as a wing
within my wish

trace me not
from memory
of this (to come again) –
from where I was
returned
when prayers were said

before the night
was pulled to shade
a whisper ceased
to matter –
yellow held her hands
above the flame

where black
the spinner
cursed the taste
of silk

shadows shift
beneath the grey
wherein the light
was less
than I could pass
remembering
to see

. . .

words were come ~

small and still

how is it
words were come
when there was nothing
left to say
names already written
to my heart

fade to light
so easily –
pull me from my dreams
dared to sleep
– remember me
this way

touch
not soon forgotten
graces understood
miles to go –
and still
I wander on

driven by a madness
settled as a saint –
counting
out my blessings
every one

take of mine
my moments –
as want for any less
change is sure
tho I shall
linger here

eased against
forever –
weighted by a sigh
held by something
greater still
than I

. . .

unbeknownst ~

surelythis

straight
and strong
soft as summer
learning now
to open soon
trees are meshed
a skirt of flowers
angels
light beneath
the moon

grace
and graces
unbeknownst
are filling swift
my cup
names and places
time erased
the want
for all
but love

. . .

bidding ~

. . .

embers glow
reminders
of the place
where yesterday
a fire burned
passions roared
bidding us to stay

sweeterstill
I wish I had
another –
yet another waits
me still
beyond the rise
of blue
into the wake
of always
will

. . .

beyond our knowing ~

left me here
the signs of age –
a road already known
the ways
of some
an ancient storm
retold
and I
for one
could never guess
the wisdom
did he carry
would lift us up
some heaven
here
below

scattered ‘bout
these weary days
this plea
for something more
than e’er a place
of rhyme
could keep us fed
learned into
this passion
wherein your name
is writ –
folded fast
each page
upon my bed

sapphire tears
are hiden
by a questioning of light
of fear absolved
by love
I couldn’t say
of where I’d be
when morning found
me watching
for a sign
when worlds beyond
our knowing –
fall away

. . .

all we knew was story ~

surrendereddreams

fallen once
the maple chords
of memory beginning
would find
and wrap around us
sweet delight

tenderly
the sacred word
when all we knew
was story –
falling stars
beyond the reach
of night

. . .

heaven here ~

of one we knew

of heaven here
(a paradise)
of truth
denied our say –
warmed by every
coming home –
(numbering
our days)

held aside
from all we knew –
would find (our love)
the same
as light before
the light was new
(to wonder why)
we came

shame
the locks
for breaking
before the sun we rose
with questions
not for taking back –
in living (now
we know)

might I wonder
even now –
to the ways
I might have been
tho far away
the evidence
of truth

reminders of kentucky
– red
above the pines
hurry me these lessons
to believe

you’d come again
to love me when
I wonder –
now I know
of words so few
remain as warm
my heart

where miles
and someone
understood –
ways beyond our way
across the creek
into an empty sky

leave
and I shall follow
in essence
known as thought
sense
to know –
the ways you’d find
me still

. . .

one more yesterday ~

sweetly

where
the wind
a moment spoke
in breezes
to the ocean –
a time or two
when trusted you
to stay

whispers
wake me –
all the night
around me wraps
with wanting
for one more time
– one more
yesterday

to live within
this consequence –
sworn to breathless
morning –
sometimes
I feel your presence
moving there

wondering
of where the winds
and where –
the waves are singing
songs I once
remembered
everywhere

. . .

Author’s note: I love the ocean – and the mountains. When I am on the shore,
I can close my eyes, and there – the sound of leaves pushing one into another.
When among the trees, I close my eyes and hear waves upon the sand. The
songs are the same – love speaks a language all can understand.
A story told by evergreen writ upon the tides.
