winter weaves
a woolen blanket
threat beneath
the snow
warm the thought
of kisses
falling down
tender as
the willing
to remember
days gone by –
and there our purpose
waits
without a sound

preyed upon
prayed apart –
whispers read aloud
tho no one knows
the way of mine
for long
brushed against
convention –
waited thru the night
held you here
as rhyme against
my song

. . .

words were come ~

small and still

how is it
words were come
when there was nothing
left to say
names already written
to my heart

fade to light
so easily –
pull me from my dreams
dared to sleep
– remember me
this way

touch
not soon forgotten
graces understood
miles to go –
and still
I wander on

driven by a madness
settled as a saint –
counting
out my blessings
every one

take of mine
my moments –
as want for any less
change is sure
tho I shall
linger here

eased against
forever –
weighted by a sigh
held by something
greater still
than I

. . .

watching for a sign ~

justhere

left me here
the signs of age –
a road already worn
the ways of some
an ancient oak
retold
and I
for one
could never guess
the wisdom
you would carry
proof revealed
– some heaven
here
below

scattered ‘bout
these weary days
this plea
for something more
than e’er a page
a rhyme
could keep us fed
learned into
this passion
wherein your name
is kept
folded near
each page
upon my bed

sapphire tears
are hidden
by a questioning of light
of fear betrayed
with love
I couldn’t say
of where I’d be
when morning found
me watching
for a sign
when worlds beyond
our knowing –
fell away

. . .

just so ~

rememberedhome

of knowing
this familiar come
the scent of almost gone
tracks across
the snow –
my yesterdays

are laced in mud –
souvenirs
of every dream restarted
the path to home
with hands to hold
– always

where
was I forgotten –
the feel of woolen sleeves
woodsmoke
curled
around my heart
just so

cedar fills
an ancient need –
stirring words to will
leaves are opened
letters
letting go

. . .

witness ~

gatheredme

warmth
is gathered
by my door –
tho white
the morning lawn
love is seeking arms
and I respond

as witness to
an ancient truth
fingerprints of grace
lace is strung
from pines –
but not for long

before the sun
discovers us
remembers me again
a child at once
recalled
to love I am

silent
as the first to fall
effortless to mourn
swirling feathers
softly
melting
down

. . .

unbeknownst ~

surelythis

straight
and strong
soft as summer
learning now
to open soon
trees are meshed
a skirt of flowers
angels
light beneath
the moon

grace
and graces
unbeknownst
are filling swift
my cup
names and places
time erased
the want
for all
but love

. . .

places I belong ~

grateful

before
and still
I have as then
a reason
to remember
the winds are calling
– even now
I rise

to watch
a wave of feathers
course a southern moon
a sea of countless
graces
for my eyes

closing now
where silent sits
in dusted rafters
– soul
gathers unto places
I belong

heart
of one
I know as more
time shall ne’er erase
the music
of becoming –
sacred
song

with your name on my mouth

for every life
another spent
– lessons
feathered soft
ancient buttons
loosened by the grey

to where
the just beginning
goes –
to start
without a name
from destinies –
a better plan
is made

for where
somewhere
we’ll find again
the window
through the wood
a lantern
glowing golden
welcome home

mysteries we squandered
by the journey
take us back –
a lifetime more
than e’er I’d pass
alone

ribbons lost
their way into
the oldest sycamore
– longing held
with seasons more
to write

of burdens left
upon the lawn
where’er the dream is gone
– dew is falling
shadows
on the night

. . .

one more yesterday ~

sweetly

where
the wind
a moment spoke
in breezes
to the ocean –
a time or two
when trusted you
to stay

whispers
wake me –
all the night
around me wraps
with wanting
for one more time
– one more
yesterday

to live within
this consequence –
sworn to breathless
morning –
sometimes
I feel your presence
moving there

wondering
of where the winds
and where –
the waves are singing
songs I once
remembered
everywhere

. . .

Author’s note: I love the ocean – and the mountains. When I am on the shore,
I can close my eyes, and there – the sound of leaves pushing one into another.
When among the trees, I close my eyes and hear waves upon the sand. The
songs are the same – love speaks a language all can understand.
A story told by evergreen writ upon the tides.

aboveme

stealing me now
three breaths
(maybe more)
as you lay
with your head
on my heart
telling aloud
the story beginning
– light making sense
(of the dark)

maybe
(and sure)
this fate to uncover
was writ
long before
we were one
to know (as we know)
to feel (what we feel)
wrapped
in a moment –
remembered as home

stealing me now
three breaths
(maybe more)
