rememberme

however this decided
were other times I knew
of places come –
as heaven waited for
knew the feel of falling
soft against the moon
of nights –
another breath
we shared before

grieve for me
stay with me
dream and I shall find
the place where once your
tired body lay
flush against my longing
two of us no more
a moment one –
as forever
fell away

. . .

lives before I lived ~

stillIam

of destiny
I’ve heard them say
another sun shall rise
committed as the sparrow
to remain
balanced on a northern wind
knowing me this way
tho time has passed –
til no one knows
my name

in sheets of iceberg
melting –
lives before I lived
rest against these windows
unafraid
of seasons gone
to blow again –
across and through my soul
reminders of some other
love I know

forgiven me
an early sky
where every star burns blue
destiny rewritten
to my will
beats beneath ten thousand wings
as one among the clouds
names are wrote
and I remember
still

. . .

these fields ~

rolledintome

these fields
have been my saving grace
how long
from waking stirred
to blur the lacey edges
come of sleep
will carry me
a lifetime more
than crystal stems
and longing
beyond the velvet echoes
of goodbye

given me direction
with
one more
purple dawn –
peepers crowd beneath
the rafters now
warm the line
between the road
and where it was I knew
you’d find me here
with every want
made true

shadows
to an outstretched hand
spirit held by name –
as somewhere soft
this once
you fell into
the wonder
of awaking –
as a dream
beyond the night

as answer to a wish
made long ago

. . .

sometimes still ~

once_as_I

lanterns sway
as beated black
nightbirds shy away in fear
someone said we’d never see
a better time
to matter here

one more lie
I meant to tell
when wandered this
to vows replayed
wrote my name beneath your own
my sun eclipsed
by living changed

east was west
and south my home –
gave my willing soul a start
miles were written
sometimes still –
are empty pages –
curs’ed heart

becoming
of the place we willed
signs of life along the way
one more time
from once we knew –
warmth beneath
the lantern’s sway

. . .

dared believe ~

ancients

years for kindness
this became –
to stand within a circle
heads to bow and hands to join
prayerful all
amen

here and there
from memory –
were truths we dared believe
but none were yet
so great as love
received

as surely was
forgiveness come
without a starlit night
without a ribbon wrapped
to let us know

eternity beginning
in the place
of here and now
were ever there a wll
to make it so

. . .

without ~

stillme

thought you knew me
wind and rain –
a year without a summer
as fortune spun
of maple
– silver plum

barns awaited filling
was there
I held you softly

fit me
as I fit you well –

back against the dawn

slow the will
from starting
a spare of winter graces
 nightime fell to whispers –
 love me more

as garnered
by surrender –

one last golden autumn
as I am come
the ways

of summer storm

. . .

blew the sky ~

almosthome

as breath
before beginning –
struggles with remembrance
another time when ashes
blew the sky
hearts so far from over
as distant
metal thunder
told of times surrendered
to goodbye

of traces
resurrected –
memories refashioned
to find in one
tho never quite the same
eyes to tear
with telling
where and when our parting –
angels watched
another war to blame

of bourbon skies
and crimson fields –
curs’ed grounds
defeated
for words returned in silence
still we wait
the echoes of confession
a sigh beyond the sorrow
heroes leaving home
outside the gate

mourning doves
are risen –
to gather near the pasture
balanced by the light
against the blue
whispers long forgiven
pierce my fragile slumber
nights I dream of smoke
and reach for you

. . .

missing you now ~

keepsmereturning

I hang on words
verbs and adjectives
that distill time’s crazy hold
on my life
souvenirs kept
in spiral bound notebooks
with tiny locks
so easily broken
like dreams
or promises carried forward
from past generations
a chapter neatly finished
but always incomplete
tonight I unplug the yellow bulbs
strung to seasons of evergreen
sons of the tree
that rose silently one year
in splendid happiness
crystalising the summit of my childhood
the night you disappeared
and distress replaced your love
too young then
I neglected to listen to your words
thinking surely you’d be around
to speak them hundreds of other times
and now –
older than you were that year
I’ve forgotten
even the sound of your voice

. . .

lullaby

I am a dancer
spun into the trees
fingers born with memory
of the sun

fragile scarlet ribbons
taut beneath the sky
robins wake
to purple lullaby

am I unknown
as tumbled down
from the tallest tree
early now my resting place
to leave

forgotten to the splendor
of breath
against the night

forever finds
a lover
in pieces of the light

. . .

your keeping ~

intomyname

pour me out
a river –
one ocean at a time
set with no direction
(but the sea)
fill my veins
warm the course
of love along my banks
rains are falling (lifetimes)
into me

pour me out
a thimble –
quench me
with your thirst
fill me with your keeping
(every tide)
caught between eternities
home to ancient shores
bless’ed moon –
(my emptiness) to hide

pour me out –
a tender heart
take of me (your fill)
with stories of a time
before you came
pour the truth –
(take the truth)
emptied to the night
stars are burning (somewhere)
– fill me now
to flame
