poetry

wonder
steals my breath away
waiting for the sun
was sure to come
– tho still I held
the night

closer than
a midnight prayer
urging me to go
out beyond
the meadow –
into flight

thought
you might have
missed me
when the oldest star
came round –
a warmth of something
feels the same
as love

twilight sweeps
across the lawn
where earlier
the dawn
slept beneath the trees
and dreamed
of us

. . .

instrumental

the rain has come
atlantis
where are you gone
what legions knew
yet turned
your will away
separated
now again –
by miles
and men and more
yet still when nights
are cold –
I hear you pray

wherein the sin
you might have been
kept your lies
beneath
covers even now
the longer bed
an orchestrated
guillotine
sanctified by fire
broken hearts
around your skirt
are spread

o tell me
once again as I
this restlessness betray
to know the truth
was ever yours
to tell
ashes float
a solemn rift
voices rise beyond
spirits speak
of sorrows –
weaved into the veil

. . .

this I know ~

stillIam

gather me
surrender me
lest I come again
to blossom
where your path
is willed to go –
life is where
I love the most
rhyme within
my words
more than faith –
a part of this
I know

for one day
I’ll discover –
the way was come
for me
knew my name
before the heavens set
held by breath
a fragile soul –
winds were waiting still
an evermore
awaits without
regret

of late –
I’m reminded
of years already gone
places I can touch
as would I please
dream beyond
my sleeping –
as one with I the night
wills my tired body
to my knees

sitting
now the silence
where sunlight
yesterday
fell against
a broken window pane
warmed a region
of my heart
thought was meant
for chill –
fires burn
despite
the pouring
rain

where we were

how sweet
the light of love divine
a wing’ed
to my flame
without a thought
for promises
by name

you come again
as e’er you might –
another down
the road
an angry man
resolved
to getting old

of distant stars
an ancient way –
I strain to understand
forgave the past
a softer place
to land

knowing
as I know you –
a shadow
splits the dark
forgotten how I knew
of where to start

. . .

willfulme

silhouettes pry
the secrets untold
from the heart of the storybook
teller I’m told

there are places
forgotten
sometimes it is said
when the words
are come easy
to press round my bed

and rain pours her tears
to my pillow (my soul)

who will remember
I wonder sometimes
what is lost
in the leaving –
the growing to old

as rings on the willow
a promise was made
and nursed by the darkness
returning our light
silver blue shadows
flash to and fro –
as a sign of our saving
wings touch the night

as a dream just beginning
a story so sweet
is gone with the dawning
a silent retreat

from the trust in another
was wonder to know
when leaned into love –
paper wings
letting go

. . .

home

garner these truths
these fragile provisions
of where
(and I was)
but a sail on the sky
tethered by something
much older
than reason
waters set free
are pulling me nigh

across
to remember
another time (passing)
fitted my breast
the darkest of quills
thicker than moss
these graces of sorrow
soars as I know
I have
(and I will)

store to my being
one more returning –
as flashes
where scars used to be
bury my home
deep (for my finding)
skies once I wandered
my way
back to thee

. . .

surrenderme

beneath the pull
of shade
to shape
of cedar into pine
forever rests
within the love I keep
fretting not eternities
wasting not a sin
drifting on the current
of my sleep

secrets wear
the seeker down –
whispers tell the most
verses bind my soul
to worlds unknown
sworn to tears
the snow returns
cool beneath my feet
worried not
  to memory
of stone

slow the wake
of ancient wills
to roll on velvet banks

and there I lie
with want
another start
to save me from
this certainty
wilderness of home
swarmed into the forest

of my heart

into this one

yesterday
the sunlight tasted
pepper cantaloupe
tho last night left me not
a drop of wine
grieving for a poem wrote
a month ago last Tuesday
– thought you here
but now I feel
you’re gone

the way of
summer shadows –
straight back ladder chairs
black and white
photographs of then
cool beneath my memory
touch to pause
the same

are pasted to a page
I never turned

Lazy_Water_Meadow_by_ahermin

lonely wears
the dreamer down
one memory at a time –
skies above the barn
are burning grey
heaven writes
but once a week –
how is it
now I’ve gone
from where I stood
– another
willed away

lessons keep
the night awake –
learning us by fault
when memorized
the joys
one heart can bring
life resolves
to start anew –
in leaving not to go
time is stopped –
but that don’t mean
a thing

for moments
more than falling down
were getting up again
as strange
this want for living
sorrow sworn
for time’s constraint
I have not words –
no curse of tiny white
– reasons come
before the path
was worn

. . .

author’s note – the photo is of
the caney fork river following a period
of heavy rains – regardless
the time passing – as one
we remain

redemption

cherry blossoms
all but gone
april sans the park
where showers came
of lilac
shady elm

thinkers
cursed
with dappled light
wrapped in cause
for worth
meditation traded
on a whim

of strategy
as plan devised
journeys
without master
of ancients slid across
and back
this way

grey and withered
someone once
was traveled from the city
with need for more –
a time
I couldn’t stay

benches cry
of hasty weight
of hours come to measure
a falling down
another getting up

awakened
elder wisdom
to sit upon the lawn
with those who’ve learned
to catch
the setting sun
