whatever has passed
echoes of summer
as last year’s winter
three feet below
a remembrance of grace
petals emerging –
revealed as the spring
to our soul
for moments like this
will is forsaken
dreams we let sleep
another one day
far past the morning
came as desire
to seal our forgiveness –
to steal us away

were this the love
to save me
when every hope was spent
before i dared
the window
to throw open
was this what i imagined
when nights were dark
and cold
the warmth i knew
was fitted
for my soul
how can i know
how can i ever
will to understand
the roads between
a million wayward stars
shattered by a wish
once i made
once i carried
slept beneath a pillow
on my bed
were this the love
to save me
when every hope was spent
before i dared
the window
to throw open

thought i once
the path was gone
every fence torn down
could barely see
the meadow
for the trees
nights i took for granted
stars that used
to shine
shooting re-reminders
of a wish
i made
one time
another life
we fit together
gave of breath to know
the ways that we would come
with moments yet
to hold
years to grant
gathered as a promise
once we made
would find us here
remembering
the wish we left
to fate

whatever words
you hold of mine
suffering to bear
confessions of a saint
– deepest praise
recompense
for shadows –
dancing on the wall
whispers of surrender
falling now
verse to bind
rhyme to waste –
the place
where love begins
witness to a sigh –
breath becoming
skin
whatever words
you keep of mine –
whatever fate is come
stretched to span
eternity –
saved for us
the one
. . .

i hear the rain
before i know
day is nearly come
somewhere
beyond the shadows –
another sun
i hear your breath
above the strain
of raindrops
on the roof
warmth to fill this moment –
where you are me
and i am you
i know this song
ten thousand birds –
words you taught me well
a melody of memories
mysteries
for sale
i feel the rain
i need your touch
a gathering of wings
fulfill my need
for heaven –
for light
the morning brings
. . .
20 Thursday Apr 2023
how many words
were wasted
in the rush
to get them down
rhyme i thought would save me
never did
years disturbing pages
awaiting verse
to come
poetry –
i knew you from the start
the way you traded
syllables
passions understood
as story memorized –
please tell me
now
where each pause is fitted
a place to hold
it all
the way to feel
everything –
words before the fall
how was i to recognize
your beat
within my own
rhyme i chose
ten thousand lines
ago
Author’s Note: I may be the poet, but you – you are the poem ❤
