for this moment
i traveled –
with rocks in my shoes
fate unrelenting
a path stretched before
to find you
remembered
a love still to learn
as the barn
stood ten thousand days more

for this
i was tempted
in this i found grace
as witness to heaven –
is all that i know
what was come of a promise
to wait
for you here
as saved from my birth
to be written
below

fell from the ethers
to altar my way
stolen from dreams –
my reluctance
to move
forward and backward
as cedars bent low
a kiss
awaiting memories
of you

i wasn’t meant
for waiting –
another sun
some other life
never raced ahead
to find the end
where I began
tis all for me
this mystery
of now
and here we are
floating on an
ancient emerald sea
touching
barely touching
your voice above the tide
fingers tangled
warmth around my own
whispers of direction
as rivers
you are come
back to this –
sweet memory
all I know
of home

was it intended
I find you
to forget everything
of loves I had thought would
be love
to forget how my dreams
were supposed to be safe –
not lost to the moment
your arms
wrapped around
I don’t know
I don’t care
why it is –
it is all
that I feel
from my oceans
my rivers
my tears
a moment I fall
without care for the end
forever returning
to the place
we begin

from a distant place
we wondered
to find this place
(we are)
tempting fate
each time your eyes
meet mine
wherever I was destined
tis only this
recalled
familiar (as a breath)
another place
and time

whatever hurts
these lessons leave
(promise I surrendered)
a store of dreams
unburdened
by my bed
carried my confession
to let (as you would have)
the truth I dared betray
to words
I left unsaid

left to squander –
time to give away
the right of grace
sorrows broken free
from everything we wanted
everything we changed
where comes my love
with promise
e’er to be –

a dying wish
a bitter taste –
forgiveness I let lie
negated by the winter
some solace
given here
shall I wait
forever –
this purpose to
receive
another
one more life
to hold you near

I’ve not much left
to offer –
no farm beyond the fence
golden trinkets
stashed beneath my bed
no aged
name to proffer
or treasure more than this
a hand to hold
a place to lay you
down

I’ve not the will
to suffer –
faith to see you
gone
twilight burned as
fate into the barn
no destiny to barter
give me yours
I’ll give you mine
breath to share
a place to lay you
down

come to me
to the fringe of dusk
when all I’ve known
is the way
to you –
where ne’er regret
is welcomed –
the velvet of his brow
his penchant
to distract
from all that matters
now

come to me
lay with me –
beneath a sky of ancients
lovers undecided
every one
breathe in me your story
grant my heart
the map –
faded lines
let these fingers bleed

come to me
a memory
come to me afraid
as proof of my good fortune
you might be
near as dawn approaches
with but a sigh
between
the shadow where you waited
come to me
