from here

stretched between
the buttons
of purple clover crown
scattered as the petals
yellow red
here am I
(remembered)
to these sweetly
fragile souls
take me
let me hurry not
ahead

the path into
where heaven sits
in silence with the sun
just beyond the reach
of yester night
tarry me a moment
yet –
let the waiting wait
will my soul to blossom –
as lovers
into light

. . .

whereverIam

mother calls
on sunday
while daddy listens in
catching up –
it seems we’ve done it all
someone had a baby
someone said hello –
fifty years of loving
to recall

strung the line
for forty feet –
sheets out in the rain
a cigar box
of memories to share
everything
(the best of me)
sits in spools of rhyme
the night is lost
when I don’t
find you there

there’s a piece of thread
nearly gone –
and jeans I shouldn’t wear
just beyond the reach
of mystery
beyond the hold
of all I love –
another morning news
the moon is wanting in –
let him be

. . .

fallen

for years before
and moments since
your name upon my lips
were nights
I couldn’t sleep –
you were my dream
remembered
as a part of me
once set apart to fly
wing’ed soul
returning as my own
from this
forever stirs within
the memory of hope –
given me your love
as destiny

wheatandworry

how could you know
unknowing –
of ways before we were
as light between the candle
and the flame
a touch of almost
nothing
fades without you here
how could you know –
my skin don’t feel
the same

as living unexpected
when thought my purpose done
fields are growing
over yesterday
grain is separated
golden from the chaff
as pieces
never meant
are blown away

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAmorning comes
remembering –
another dawn I lay
wrapped in softest linen
counted sleep
folded now to memory –
stored upon the shelf
take me down
as moments –
left to keep

home

by mercy
I have wandered –
as a student to the light
remembered how it was
I came to be
a part of all creation –
what destiny have I
as sister to the myrtle
lark and leaf

how green the river
blood must flow –
to claim my heart anew
where mysteries of blossom
yet prevail
o’er bill and bark –
a briar bent
to wrap around me so –
tied with words
and not a one
to tell

cooler now
the summer path
awaiting for my feet –
a gentle breeze
made softer by my own
voice to greet
the mourning dove –
nightbirds sail beyond
as dreams are washed
into this sweet unknown

. . .

numbers
and night birds
roosting in willows
crickets are crooning –
just past the light
echoes of where I was
one time too often
as lowly came home
another someday to bed
and spread to my quilt
hands to remember
touch not so young
I betrayed
kisses the first
will I know – will I ever
how many the last
will become

. . .

sweeter

when bent the oak
to catch the sun –
the slightest truth undone
became of storms
as leaves might sometimes fall
innocence to touch the ground
truth to bear them up
wind to carry
lovers one and all

when moved the rush
of willing waves
cold their fearless cries
as dashed upon the rocks
a centaur fell
green as first the mossy banks
held their secrets long
pressed the way
along the summer swell

blossoms rest
beneath the bark –
pines are lonely here
still reach their bony fingers
toward the light –
tell me there
another tale
of where and when
and whether
we passed before
as shadows of the night

of solitude
no worse for grace
alone is not so very
as stars to swear
allegiance to the soul
gathered breath into the wake
of one more everafter
I shall live
in heavens I have known

find me near
the water’s edge
beneath a pink umbrella
swept along with dreams
the wait becomes
past the turn in churning
one more tender take
spring is fell
and love is just begun

Was a moment
I remembered –
to know we were the same
as destined
I was come
to wear your name.

Safe within
this prophecy
of light His hand to write
– stories yet becoming
of our life.

Of lifetimes
not so many –
even now the past
so dear –
as where we were
when first
I held you near.

The first to keep –
these hands to know
of graces to remember.
Love –
that first sweet breath
of spring –
still lingers
on December.

whereverIam

were our story
without ending –
the road would lead us on
forgotten not the turning
or the fall
reminders of eternity
wink and they’ll be gone
hands to hold –
and one to change
it all

eighty years
or sometimes ten –
a garden loved by thorns
a rusty metal rocker
hides the shade
baskets stained by picking
weeds to bind the fence
bees are telling
every plan
we made

a worn out
sunday prophet –
folds his bible near
tho none can read the name
it used to hold
leather bound by promise –
love would get us through
trees are bending
double
in the cold

I been down
and got back up –
to know
(I know) of love
of seasons undecided
by the light
of passing into paradise
to live beyond these days
gardens yield for tending –
somewhere sweet
tonight
