beatriz

an ancient box
of cedar fame
is lined with stories
tell again
of all that was
forever now
and what of truth
remains

as carried
from the table
and laid beside my bed
a note of time
allowing
for something
yet unsaid

I’ve felt
the gentle swelling
of moss
beneath the dawn
where silent sleep
ten thousand
I have loved

how soft
become
the shadows shift
into the sweetest fold
of almost was
a dream caught fire
to burn
within the cold

a telling
of a night not far
and secrets lay behind
where then
they might
as we were found
this close
another time

dreaming of
a place beyond –
the warm embrace
of spark
a wisp of knowing
deeper still
than longing to the bark

gathered as
immortal ink –
the poet’s heart to free
a folded note
of birth rewrote –
I carry you
with me

. . .

but for another time ~

Ihaveseenyouthere

he said
but for another time –
might I leave this world tonight
journey into dreams
and not look back
so certain
you would follow
in the traces left behind
picking up the pieces
I forgot
to let you know

she said
I thought I saw you
on the road just yesterday
standing in the shadows
with sunlight
in your eyes
cheated by the distance –
were those violets in your hand
I turned around
and all I found
were seeds

he said
the truth comes easy
but for times
I turned away
forsaking you the days
(for nights)
between
would that I had known you
before my story set
when all I had to give
was everything

she said
I’ll find my way again
down along the creek
of lessons –
still I wonder about you
someone said
of nothing lost –
a moment without breath

I believe as then
heaven holds
the breeze

. . .

thestoryoflove

will the river
run dry
for a promise beholding
as secret these dreams
held aloft
by the stars
tell me their names
share me to story
of a moment –
eternity
here in your arms

of a place
in the wood
surrendered to blossom
come of a night
you held me
this way
warned me of sorrows
your loving
would leave me

remind me
again –
what of joy to repay

when all
that is left
is a reason for going
when the cool morning air
sits deep in my bones
beg me
remember
the sweet smell of autumn
if e’er I’ve forgotten
my way back
to home

. . .

beholdingstill

what closed to my eyes
the certain return
of all I have given –
all I have known
is kept in this endless
cavern of heart
where night never fades
without promise of light
to shine on the writing
the carving of names
held into place
by speaking aloud
of those who are gone
but honor me still
as an echo of some
intangible proof
seasons and who needs
a reason to keep
what became of a story
written of me

every only time ~

sometimes
i can’t help wonder
when the night is pulled around
how much of me is missing –
lives in moments
you have kept
as verses from the message
lines deprived of rhyme
backward now
erasing me –
from every only time

were holding
all that mattered –
might i find you yet again
pressed into forever by the light
waiting as it seemed
for moments i was meant
favored by the universe
carried by the wind
miles from where we started
are places i belong
no different than curses
to the bark
day returns
a story to begin

a far off place
of none compared
remains of secrets traded there
echoes worn to silence
poetry and smoke
are memorized
and written down
as proof of something more
come for me
as once the night awoke
to fnd us gone
remembering
where stars are watching still
forsaken not the promise
never spoke

. . .

something there ~

tellme

was there ever
here before
some refrain of yesterday –
a flame
beyond the dark
to lure us home
a story left
for making sense
as want for one last time
a fate designed by more
than wishful thinking

a stand of pines
a bed of dreams –
between
beyond the river
is something there
reminding us
of ways by which we came
to find the truth
was bound to us
always

for reasons
I dare not explain
life implores the soul –
begin
fading tender graces
older scars
are weaved into the making
of all we’re come
to be

lines are crossed
into the light
again

made us to story ~

thisway

these hands
how they love you
as lips to your song
of a place
I was going
someday

near a bend
in the river
where cattails are free
to move without music –
as one
with the waves

were rocked
by an ocean
in love with the sky
remade us to story
of clouds
filled with rain

how distant
endearing –
the thundering boom
rattles the windows
when I hold you
this way

. . .

glories ~

there’s a shadow
to my collar –
where once a scar was new
and late one night
I shared my ache
with you

as a whisper
down the mountain –
a twine of glories flame
like the mist above the river
bears my name

not for verse
am I returning –
not for one more curs’ed rhyme
but for arms
around me folded –
I’m inclined

to remember
every promise –
the scent of winter hay
love
long after life
is swept away

shall I wait
your last tomorrow –
for a prayer before I go
into realms
where hearts are learning
all I know

. . .

downtherivernow

what essence
have I left behind
to places here I love
don’t think me gone
– don’t think
you are alone

how could you know
of something more
than moments yet to grieve
a heart designed
to hold the love I leave

will hear the faintest echo
of laughter
such as mine
through the trees
a buzzing like the bees

a ripple on the water
flowing gently to your shore
as daylight
thru the window
of your tears

o don’t think me gone
when all I love
is here

in ways
you will remember
every whisper of your name
a presence just beyond
the reach
of dreams

these arms
were meant to hold you –
even now
they warm you so
don’t think me gone
– love won’t
let you go
